Auto vs Manual

So I have a automatic SS and I usually get a hard time from people about not having a manual. Is there a big difference between difference especially in regards to performance?

V6 is the way to go

26 hp, 400 Vs 426. Different rear end gears, 3.27? Vs 3.45?
I usually ask them what they drive. Then listen to their rambling excuse.

Guys, maybe this thread won't turn out as horribly bad as the others...maybe...

It's true, people that drive manuals perform better in.....wait a minute what are we talking about here???

Auto = L99 400hp with Active Fuel Management Manual = LS3 with no active fuel management. LS3 is quite a bit stronger out of the box due to it not having AFM, a larger camshaft, different heads (may be mistaken on something) L99 is detuned considerably from factory, all to keep from Auto SS buyers from having to pay a gas guzzler tax. Just a Tune on the L99 wakes it up a lot, but still falls short of the LS3 in raw power. At the same time a L99 will run very similar, more consistent track times than an LS3 while making less power. Start moding the L99 after a bit it becomes just as capable as the LS3. Hope this helps.

Its a personal preference I believe, I have an auto but would rather grab gears because it is fun. My dad would rather drive auto because it is easy and you can get in and go.

This was my first manual. Bought it at 31 years old. It was tough to learn. But it's changed my life. Driving a manual is a poetic experience. Like all great things its difficult to describe :)

I think the heads are the same but the valvetrain is a bit different. Other then that, I think the rest is right on.

Which is best, test drive them both and decide which you like best. That's really the only way for you to make a good decision. I went with the L99 and have been very happy. Would have loved to have the better short block of the LS3 but for most everyone needs, the short block of the L99 will do just fine and then some. Just takes a bit more money to get rid of the valvetrain and convert to LS3.

I got L99 in case my wife wanted to drive the car and then she NEVER drives it!!! LOL. I do still love my L99. I have driven some LS3 Camaros and liked them ALOT also so really it comes down to personal preference.

Get a good tune on the L99, engine and trans tune and it turns into a totally different beast!!!
