Does Anyone know the added HP for Shortys, Catback & Air Intake upgrades???

I can't seem to find any information on what the added Horse Power will be for upgrading to the Shorty Headers, Catback Exhaust & the Air Intake. If anyone knows this, please share it. Thanks

i would say 10-15 hp max. there not real agressive high performance parts.

justmeron 03-18-2009 06:42 AM

I would guess with all 3 add ons probably around 30HP or there abouts.

camarohead 03-18-2009 06:46 AM

yea, i could be a little low.

I would say the shortys would be about 10 or so, the catback about 5 or so and the intake about 5 or so .. maybe 25 - 30 with all 3 installed.

We have to wait until we get the car on the dyno. I will say that you'll want long tubes over short tubes even if they're not GMPP.

30 untuned. 45 tuned

When the car is tuned and say you are getting the 45 extra hp, will the mpg and torque numbers be affected?

Torque will go up too. If you get 45 extra hp then torque should about 25-30 extra as well. But when you get more HP, will get burn more MPG. But not by much.

Also, you want more torque then HP. Torque is much more important then HP at this point. You WILL feel the torque then you would the HP.

TQ will for sure .... as far as MPG .. it depends .. if it is Rich up top and they tune to lean it out some .. it is possible you could pick up a little MPG .. however .. if you drive it a bit harder because of your mods, you will probably loose some MPG .. lol

A properly tuned car shouldn't loose MPG because a tuned car is efficient. It seems like (at least) GM tunes on the safe side, so the tunes seem to favor the rich side. Leaning them out a little should save a like gas, I'd think.

I think gains for these parts aren't going to be much more than 30 RWHP with a tune. I think the shorties are the greatest remaining restriction of these parts, but technically, I believe any car that moves the cats' from the OEM location is illegal anyways, and it's not possible to keep the cats' in their OEM locations with long tubes (LTs), so... Some people have to worry about this more than others, but if you don't have to content with strict smog laws, it would be pretty silly not to go with LTs. If I could I would...

HP is go fast,
Torque is go fast NOW

ArcAngel 03-18-2009 05:01 PM

Well I knew torque would go up but I was thinking a little more conservative with the numbers. Happy at the 25-30 guestamite. Also pretty positive mpg will stay pretty much the same

Thanks for all the information guys. Do you think I'm too late to cancel my shorty headers? I ordered on 11-3-08 when i originaly ordered my car or should I just leave it as is? I thought that the shortys would be a better additon to go along with the catback and air intake. Any thoughts???
