Thumbs down M6-AY6 manual trans for v6

Is it just me but after having about 520 miles on my car since March 1st, i just think that the 1st gear in this transmission is way to short. I mean in quick stop and go traffic, im seriously learning to just take off in 2nd. 1st is too short and theres not a big enough gap from 1st to 2nd. Thats just my take how about you?

I am used to that with my Jeep, I usually take off in second in city driving.. That might explain my gas mileage sub 15...

I had the same drivetrain in my CTS. I thought it was fine.

It's too short if you are shifting at like 2k RPM or lower, but if you wind it out some it seems fine to me. Take it to the redline and make it chirp when you shift! I actually go from 1st to 3rd a lot...

If you aren't running the RPMs up before going to 2nd, then yes, it's short. If I run up the RPMs (which is a lot more fun BTW), then I don't need to shift to 2nd until around 30mph. My SOLO exhaust doesn't start screaming until 3k rpms so I'm usually shifting after that unless I'm in a neighborhood.

I agree, but lately just started taking it into 3-4k rpms before shifting. San Antonio stop and go traffic sucks. Rather than shifting in 2nd I just drag it out a much as I can. By the time I was shifting into second the traffic was already at a complete stand still.
I am still getting used to driving stick. I'm quite embarrased with my lundging lately.
