Is more hp really worth it?

Title pretty much says it all, I can easily afford the parts and labor. 580hp is a lot but I feel like the ZL1 is capable of a lot more. I just want to know if you guys are happy with your mods, if you had the chance would you stay stock or get the mods again?

My friend has a C5 corvette pushing 761hp to the wheels and its just insane to ride in. To the point to where its no longer a daily driver, constant wheel spin.

I would like to be at around 700rwhp without sacrificing reliability and the over all driving experience of the car.

I know tires are a huge part of putting the power down to the ground. Are there some good street tires than can handle that much hp?

Nitto nt05r tires hook up very well. I can hook up 800whp with very little effort. The Camaro has a very strong chassis and smooth power delivery. I really enjoy my car and my wife takes it out with the kids once in a while with ease. Would I modify my car if I were to do it again? So much so that I would not have kept this car if I couldn't have made it what it is now.

I would do it all over again for sure. I love the car even more with the added power. Still very street-able. 700 to the wheels is a good number to shoot for, reliability is still well within that range.

I am extremely happy with the route I went on my build. I just wasn't content with the car in stock form. The ZL1 is a heavy car as you know, but an excellent platform to build off of.

I'll chime in on this even though I don't own a ZL1. Here's how I see it - you don't need any more power. You likely look favorably towards the additional power but, have you considered refining the car first and seeing if you like that before tossing more power at it?

You could get a lighter flywheel, better clutch, better driveshaft, better rotors, better suspension components, lighter wheels, etc. They may not be immediately gratifying like having MOAR POWA but I can assure you it'll make your car feels loads more crisp and responsive. From there, you can nickel and dime power options. That's just me, though.

Hmmm....the car already has a better suspension and forged wheels. Quicker acceleration is what I wanted and with just some pulley changes, CAI, and a tune, you can gain a quick 100+ more RWHP & RWTQ. I don't need over 700 at the wheels but coming near 600 at the wheels is fun and the car makes a great daily driver as it is my only car.

I've added more power to every sports car and motorcycle that I've owned. 700 plus rear wheel horsepower is very reliable and doable with the ZL1 even with an Auto. Livernois is a good source and the track numbers back up the dyno numbers very very well. Can drive daily with no problem if that is your desire. Like some others have mentioned, without good hooking tires like the Mickey ET's you can end up hurting yourself trying to put that power to the ground. The weight is definitely an advantage on the street with that amount of rwhp, have run some lighter cars said to have higher hp but 1st gear in the auto off the line have made them lose their composer and go up in tire smoke.

Modifying is part of the fun when owning these cars.

Well, in the end I spose its your vehicle. I figured I'd toss my two cents in from the tone of the original post. I find more often than not, across various platforms of vehicles I've owned, the consensus amongst most owners is that they want more power but end up complaining about wheel hop or how a car with lesser power showed them their tail lights. I guess I was just trying to say that there are different aspects to the game than just adding power.

Hell to tha yea its worth it...lol! I'm at 750rwhp and i cant be happier! Its still streetable even though its highly modified. To cut down on the wheel hop and wheel spin i went with the ZL1 sizing on rims and tires....and as for tires i went with PSS's and i was amazed at how well my car handled grip wise!

With the F-Body for example, that was absolutely the case. You needed to do full suspension, a clutch and rear if you were going to put power to the ground. In the case of the ZL1, you don't have to do any except for changing out the clutch.

HP = L + G - DL

or horsepower = length + girth - drivers licence

is one of the oldest equations in math and hard to argue with.
