Angry Winter Tires & Rims

I just had a shock. I phoned my local dealer for a price on Winter tires and rims. They want $287.25 Canadian for each rim (18") and $363.00 for each tire. (Pirelli SICE). This doesn't include taxes not install etc. That's a wopping $2,601.00. With taxes and install we're talking the best part of $3,000.00!!!
I'm sure some other owners must have solved that by now.................. so how and where?

well you called the DEALER for stock wheels... what did you expect? You have to go aftermarket on the wheels and find tires elsewhere. For a front PZero my dealer wanted like $460 and tirerack had it for about $380 I think.

I priced the tires and wheels for my SS and bought a 2001 Buick Century instead. My Camaro will stay high and dry in my garage for the winter. If the streets are dry I will take the SS for a few short hops.

+1

If I had to drive this car year round, I would buy a front wheel drive or 4 wheel drive p o s instead and either not drive the camaro or only drive it when it's nice out.

Agree with the Tire Rack idea, that's where we got ours. 18" Pirelli Ice and snow with 4 new rims about 1500 USD with tax and shipping. VERY nice people to work with, the first set they sent would not fit, so they paid to ship them back and sent the new ones.

Went to put on the winter tires yesterday. Not as nice as the 20" polished aluminum, but not that bad looking after all!

I finally went with the Pirelli Scorpion Ice 18 " package from Tirerack. All in all, tires, mags, sensors, valves, rings, centers... and mounting/balancing was about 1750$US shipped. The nearby tire place charged me.... 42$ tax included to change and store the tires!!!!

Tirerack Winter packages range from US$1,100 for 18" Bridgstone Blizzaks, Rims and TPMS to $1,750 for 20" Blizzaks which I bought - link to my thread - http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41966

I noticed tirerack allows 18" wheels on the SS. I thought you couldn't put wheels that small due to the brembos? Anyone with an SS put smaller wheels on? I would think someone would try in order to reduce rotating mass.

Installed aftermarket 18 inch aluminum wheels mounted with Bridgestone Blizzaks one week ago. No fitment problems whatsoever. Speedometer calibration remains spot on also. Ordered my "winter tire/wheel" package from The TireRack in September. Good people to deal with.

I got 20" Pirelli scorpion ice and snow at my local belle tire for $1123 and that included all the taxes, etc.. They said they would swap my winters to summers complimentary for me.

That was still cheaper than going with a package at tire rack.

Are you looking at LS wheels?

I got them @ 130.00 / wheel, and TPMS at 55/wheel at local dealer. Bought Blizzack elsewhere for about 1040 taxes included... All done, this was about 2000$ all included. I know that there is a paper for dealers listing winter wheels, that's where the parts guy got the 130$ price. I also bought center caps and 2 way wheel bolts (one way bolt to the stud, the other way bolts to the center cap).

Only did not buy the chrome ring, but will in the future.
