Hurst shifter (dealer) or Hurst aftermarket?
When I test drove it with the Hurst it was nice but isn't the aftermarket Hurst a shorter throw?

yes, the factory one is 22% reduction (I think, I know it's something close to that), the aftermarket one is 44% reduction

There are better and less expensive options rather than the Hurst.

Your opinion, your post also doesn't do anything to help the OP. Rather than to ignite another "what's the best shifter" thread.

The reduction in throw for a factory Hurst shifter is indeed 22%. The aftermarket is twice the throw reduction, coming in at 44%. There are a few threads on this already.

Is there any word of GM offering the factory Hurst version as a kit priced below the current $800 range?

No, they have no plans to release it as an accessory. I asked fbodfather about it and its just a too labor intensive install, and it would cost quite a bit to have it installed at the dealer. That's why its only a factory option.
