New Nitto NT05's, 1/4 Mile Question/Advice - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

A week ago I had a set of Nitto NT05's put on and if things go right I plan to take it to the track this Friday night. I went for my first time last year and learned a lot and hope to do better this year. You are not able to drive around the water box at the track that I plan to go to. What is the best way to get a good launch with the NT05's? After the water box should I do a little burnout to get the water off, or should I heat them up? Not sure what the NT05's like the most. Also, I plan to take some air out of the rear tires, but am not sure how much I should take out. Thanks in advance for any information.

Going to GLD or WIR?

I drive around the water box, and then back into it with drag radials. You could roll back a bit, and then roll forward to the front edge. Then do a burnout. I'd probably air the tires down to 25 psi.

Spin them enough to dry them and heat them up a little but nothing crazy. I run about 19-20lbs in mine.

Gees, I would never go to another track where you could not drive around the water box. I went to Jackson TN's 1/8 mile track where it was the same and it was a waste of time and money. I will never do that again.

You didn't say whether your NT05s are the "R" drag radials or street tires. In either case, you are going to have to do a burn out to dry the tires...no question. Or, leave traction control on. In either case, you will not get a decent idea what your car will run if you have to drive with wet tires.

Pull up out of box

Do a 5sec burnout

Pull up 2 line

I do best with 18psi cold
Which will b 20 psi after burnout

Did you intend to buy those? They aren't going to help your launch at all.

pull all the way out of the water. if you don't you will only sling water all over the wheel wells and it will drip back onto your tires and you will drag it up to the starting line.

if they don't let you drive around the water then burn out and roll up slightly to one side and move back into the middle in the groove about halfway between the box and line.

and hufferSS is right, you need a drag radial, you have a radial. with a street tire you only want to heat them to the first sign of smoke otherwise you will grease them up and get even worse traction. I wouldn't go below 25 psi on a street tire. just spin them enough to get the pebbles off and some wisps of smoke. you can angle your mirrors down and in to check.

get some drag tires and get your 60 fts under 1.9 and your times will come way down. generally speaking a .1 decrease in 60 ft can lead to a .2 decrease in 1/4 mile time so the launch is a big deal. going from a 2.2 sixty foot to a 1.9 can get you a .6 faster 1/4 mile time!

I had like 12 passes on the The NT05's ('street tires') and this is my experience;
They dont like water, 'avoid the water box'
I do small burn out just to clean the tires
I do best with 23psi on them (I tried 25, 24 first)
I lunch around 3000-3200 rpm's with T/C & Stabilitrac shut off

I still spinning the tires, but a lot less than before...
