20" or 22" rim??
I'm about to buy a new set of rims, and just started thinking that I have an idea of what I want, but am not to sure if I should get it. I don't know a whole lot about tires and rims like I do other aspects of cars, so I figured I'd get a little input. I'm changing out my 21's because the price for tires is insane, and considering 22x9 / 22x11 or 20x9 /20x11 rims.
1) is that the correct size for the SS? 2) is there any downside of one size versus the other? 3) any reason why I should get one of these size rims? (I'm pretty sure the price per tire can't vary to much) 4) What size tire is reccomended with the rim? Thanks for the help, I never knew buying a good set of wheels required so much information.

I say go for 20's. You can have the look and performance!
IMO 20's is the best size for the Camaro 22's is just to big. |

20's for less weight and larger sidewall. 22's if you aren't concerned with either. Both look good on a lowered car. It also depends on the style. What are you thinking?

Right now I'm leaning towards a polished and chrome 5 spoke, unsure exactly which one atm, trying to narrow it down between a couple different vendors.

I say go with 20x9 all the way around. That way you can rotate tires.

I was thinking about putting the same size all the way around, but I read somewhere that the staggered size is better for handling. ??

First don't jump into wheels until you read all the Stickys above. Since you not sure spend the time reading and seeing on the forum what other guys have that you like. Wheels and suspension can be expensive and if you don't like what you buy the first time you will only get about 1/2 on a resale.
I would say if you drive your car all the time in bad weather, crappy roads and don't spend the time detailing your wheels get 20's. Bigger sidewall, cheaper, and easier to resale. My .02

I'd say that 21" is the perfect size for a balance of look and performance, the tires are just too expensive though.
That being said, I'd go 22" being that I am all about the look goods. |

Stick with 20" for performance or go with 22" for the bling factor. Depends on what you are going for.
You have to compare the weights of both the wheels themselves and also the tires that go on them, but as a general rule the bigger the wheels/tires the more mass you have on there. You really have to take each wheel and tire on a case by case basis. Weight (even unsprung) doesn't help you in the handling department. Big wheels are only for looks---and they do look ultra-sweet. When I went with 22s" from 18s" on my Tahoe I could feel the weight and slower steering. Some of these wheels can be downright heavy and massive. The forged ones are best but you are looking at $4500+ not including tires or sensors. This can be a very expensive upgrade. I'm shopping for 20s now and taking my time talking to our quality vendors here. I'm looking at CCW and TSW mostly.

If you want performance, go with 20s. You can still look good with 20s, and have performance. Your performance is truly shot in the ass with 22s. Im speaking form experience. Looks fantastic. Performs like shit. No it's not. You read wrong. |

On a 45 degree day, with my equipment, I should dyno over 500. I got 471. Everyone else I know with my set-up is right up around 500. Nobody is under 490. 20 RWHP easily. But most likely around 25. |

Correct...the OP read wrong about the wheels. Running the same tires on all four corners do improve handling, but might look weird with some setups. I am considering running 275s or 285s on all four corners in 20". But I'm no expert. I've been spending time here and talking to our sponsors before I drop $5K.
