Why did you supercharge your ride?

I read that thread today about “what you do if someone pulled up to you at a light” (or something to that effect). After reading that thread I realized I really have no intentions of racing, on the street, or a track. Well, maybe a track since there is one here but odds are I’ll never see it. When I was young I’d street race a bit but mostly it was just cruising with an occasional all out sprint here and there and some smoke shows for the buddies.

Now 20 years later I’m thinking I just want a really responsive car that handles as if it’s on rails. Maybe I’ll do a smoke show or two and every now and then or get off on the that feeling of being pinned back in my seat for 1st maybe part of second gear, but do I “need” a supercharger? A cam will get some good power overall and sound more wild idling at a light too. Though the SC will have more low end torque and the idea of having a streetable reliable Supercharged car is just very cool to me.

I guess I need to clarify what I want out of this car before I drop the cash. I’m curious what you did on your car, why, and if you’d do anything different?

I have never had a blower car before and I also wanted it for power/sound and looks. also wanted it for car shows as well,,,for me its not about street racing ,plus my car will never see drag racing. but i will say its nice to spin the tires in any gear !!! here is a pic of my car

If you want some killer torque a roots/twin screw supercharger is really the way to go. All the bolt ons, heads or a cam won't really add torque on the bottom end like a blower will. You just can't beat that kind of power for pure street fun! Not everyone needs 500+ rwhp and gobs of torque but if you do, a blower is a great route to go. Pricey? Yes, but it's one of the few mods that you'll actually retain some money on. You can toss a few grand in bolt ons on to your car but it won't help the resale. A supercharged SS will fetch some extra cash for sure.

Looks like they are from Roto-Fab.

What's a price range for a supercharger, just a ball park.

I put a Maggie on my L99 SS because quite frankly, it was butt slow. I've always had pretty fast cars so putting a Maggie on my SS was the first upgrade I did. Heck, I didn't even let the engine break in according to GM's recommendations. I think I only had like 300 miles on the car. lol

I'm pushing 40 but every time I get into my car, I kind of revert a little. Call it my midlife crisis, if you must, but there is just something about her that makes me want to move. The fact that she is very accommodating, well that is just a bonus.

I've not been on a drag strip in 20 years and can't get to the road course often enough. For now, I'm without the SC, but its just a matter of time. For me, the thought of adding the SC is more about knowing its there when I want it. Having that little something extra on tap when I want to stretch my legs a bit is a great feeling.

I'm already over 550hp and still have the "want" for more.
