Dyno tune vs email. Comparison

With all the talk about remote tuning, thought i'd post up my results. This is a popular SCT custom email tune on the thin line and a GPI dyno tune on the bold. Car is a L99, Kooks 1 3/4 headers with HFC's, and a Halltech Yellowjacket. No hero runs here. Car was at operating temps before the logs were run. 4X runs on the email tune to get a baseline and used the best repeatable run. Rhino (GPI) did a great job and was very professional. VVT tables were properly set to get the most HP/Tq at the earliest rpm.

This isn't posted to bash remote tuning, but for many to understand the reasoning why some people say to dyno tune whenever possible. IMO, you can't see the fine tuning needed for getting the most from your car with just logs. You can get close if you have a GOOD tuner that pays close attention to the logs but there's always a little left on the table.

This is why I went with a custom in house tune using HP Tuners with Josh @ Spartan Performance.

Congrats Axis! Rhino is an effin tank. Just as a curiosity, what was the email tune?

After hearing about issues with email tunes and seeing this I am glad I went with a Dyno tune using HPTuners.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my next

Pretty telling. Hence, why I am about to ditch my email tune and get a dyno tune by a reputable tuner/builder.

Was the first tune possibly very lean and experiencing knock retard? What was commanded AFR vs the actual AFR the car was getting?

Yes it was lean. Little bit of retard, i'm thinking it was around 2 degrees. Was commanding somewhere in the 12.2 range and hitting 13.6. Maf scaling was a bit out. haha
