So they can't be sent back to Multimatic to be rebuilt?

Or was is just more cost effective to replace?

Thanks

Multimatic has stated before, they do not service shocks/struts

Multinational won’t rebuild them. I asked. The Chevy zr2 truck has lots of issues with the dssv’s leaking. I hope it doesn’t become a thing. I took the leaking one apart out of couriosity, could totally have been rebuild if they wanted. Very neat inside. I kept the spool valves trashed the rest. One thing I did notice is the shock shaft had a little bit of scoring/wear which was most likely the cause of the leaking. I also don’t like how the top mounting point of the rear shock is slotted and can be slightly rotated before tightened. Maybe if not tightened down in the correct position is caused it to bind up. I loaded the whole assembly to ride height before I tightened the upper and lower shock mounting bolts. Hopefully it found it’s natural position.

So... seeing the DSSV units can't be rebuilt, how long and how deep are supplies when a damper, or dampers, are needed? What is the current cost of just the damper? I have to say -- many of the online part site are somewhat confusing...

I’m right there with you. They were around 500$ shipped ea when I was looking. I was fortunate enough to find a 5 member who had a single, never used rear damper I got for a fraction of new. I do worry with replacement parts on this car as time goes on. Aftermarket ( koni, bilstien, etc) still are not making dampers yet as I am aware. They would be accepted replacements IMO.

Are they nitrogen charged? If so is there a way to recharge the shock easily after disassembly? I bet any of the off road race shock guys can probably rebuild it or at least source seals for them.

I would like to keep using the DSSV dampers as long as I can. The Z/28.R teams all changed their dampers and all the suspension points were the same as the street car so there are options (high quality) out there... I just have not explored.

Keeping fingers crossed my dampers hang in there for a while.

This would be an awesome option. I do not know anything about what the gas is or knowledge about the damper's seals. Still don't understand why Multimatic wouldn't have a rebuild service...

If anyone has one that they would like to get rebuilt I can reach out to a few people I know in the off road industry to see if they would be game? I know one guy is a former suspension engineer in the OEM side.

Subscribing to this thread. No need now -- but if there is a business that'll rebuild, I would be all in.

Same. Especially if it is cheaper than replacing. OEM costs are , but aftermarket costs are even more

Does anyone have one handy to see if there's a port for charging the shocks with nitrogen? It might be a shrader valve or something smaller.

I took mine apart. There is no external port.

I'm sure there are some suspension shops that aren't afraid to disassemble and rebuild these.

Took my used set of z/28 suspension to a shop here the Austin area - they are willing to rebuild if they needed it assuming they can do it. He put them on their dyno and said they are in good shape and don't need a rebuild so I won't bother.

One issue I suppose is lack of proprietary parts that may be required if they are worn out (the spool valve).

I'd upgrade (high end aftermarket coilovers / race shocks) if I had a Z/28 that needed new shocks, but then I'd use it hard as it was intended to be...
