I asked the service guys and they said it would be a new and complete engine. It took a month and a half for them to do all the investigations on seeing if I had modifications and if I had signs of abusing the car/racing/tuning. Then they finally approved it and the engine came in last Thursday. I'm sure it won't be hard to tell if it is used or remanufactured once I get the paperwork and the car back. They said it would be done by Wed. I will keep you posted.

I just spoke to the service department, and they confirmed the engine is not used nor remanufactured. It is brand new and will be fully installed by tmrw.

Let me know what part number they charge out on the invoice. I just looked it up, I am only seeing new engines available for the 6.2 in a Camaro lol, that is surprising and looks like I was wrong! It also says the L99 is not discontinued as noted you must order from gmspo.

I'll let you know tmrw! Can't wait to get it back. I was literally days away from putting the lsa conversation on it, with all the bells and whistles. And ditching the warranty, when the motor gave up. So this is a blessing in disguise. I'll have a new engine for the blower now.

Agreed that you are getting an L99. They are a little cheaper, so you know that is where the warranty company is going to go. Also, it is a straight up swap with nothing else needed.
New, remanufactured, or used? Who knows. I know some insurance/warranty companies reserve the right to buy a used engine with similar or less mileage than what you currently have.
As for being discontinued? Nope. You can buy either engine brand new or remanufactured. They just are not being used in new cars anymore as GM moved on to the LT platform.

Edit: Just saw this after I posted. That is great news man. I would be relieved.

Yes, both of those will unfortunately void the warranty. They've had the car since Dec 8th. They said the techs would be looking for aftermarket modifications and/or computer tuning. They looked for signs of racing, abuse, or poor maintenance. I don't have time to do my oil changes so I always drop it off at the dealer. So they had a pretty good paper trail. Then they asked me to approve a $3500 teardown to find the source of the failure. If they found it was my fault, that was my bill. After I passed all the inspections, they sent Ally to come and look at the car.

So when you put the blower on the new engine are you swapping out the AFM lifters or leaving them and the stock cam in? Just curious on your build ideas.

No, I bought the delete kit. I wanted the blower to run on its own pulley so I bought the zl1 front-drive with pulleys and deleting VVT, installing a non-vvt cam.

Oh hell yeah. That's how I would do it. Don't have to worry about the weak link in the valvetrain.

yeah because we all bought cars with 400+hp so we can putt around town
i kinda get a tune but there is no reason a cai should void a warranty other than them looking for any way to keep from honoring a repair.....

CAI should not. But at your age you must have a 3rd party warranty. It really depends most of those look for any reason, any mod to deny a claim then you are just left with suing them. Factory warranty is a little more forgiving, but non GM calibrations in the ecm will deny a warranty claim. Funny part is most dealers forget to verify the calibrations so you can get lucky lol. But i would always reload the factory tune and hope they don't catch it. The whipple sitting on top of mine might be a dead giveaway though....

Yea it's crazy, but if you think about it. CAI is illegal in some states, including the one I live in. Some CAI requires a tune to adjust the air-fuel ratio. So they will absolutely use that against you and say the CAI made the car run lean or yada yada yada.

The dealer is saying that spark plugs and wires do not come with the engine. I did not know that. So they still found a way to get into my wallet ($506+ purge valve tube$150+Deductible$100 =$656 ) Can anyone confirm this is normal?
