2015 Camaro LS Valve Train Noise
I have a 2015 Camaro LS with 18k on it. When I ride with the windows down, sometimes I hear a rattle that sound like valves tapping. It usually happen when I'm increasing lightly on the throttle, and not consistently. No noise at all under hard acceleration. Are these engines noisy sometimes?, or should I be investigating for an issue. There is no CEL on

You might want to post this question in the V8 section. Would get more response. And yes the LS's and L99's do make a little noise.

don't know much about trim levels. He thought LS motor, and not TRIM level. I have a 2010 LS, and it's no V8. V6s have noise, and injector noise. You will hear the purge valve chatter too, so that may be what you are hearing. It comes from the passenger side. I remember the first time I heard that, and was like, WTF is that? Opened the hood, and there it was. You can feel it too, when you put your hand on it. Guy I know has a Sonic, and he said he is hearing a knocking from his engine compartment. I told him pop the hood, start it up. As soon as it began, I said; "Put your hand on that." Pointed to the purge solenoid. He felt it... I said, my Camaro does it too... Must be a Chevy thing. I have my engine cover off, and all the insulation off, so you want to hear noise. There is an injector valley foam cover too, got rid of that when I did the intake manifold gasket. It's all a lot cooler, with the expense of noise, without all that insulation. The intake plenum doesn't even get hot with the cover off, until idling. If you are using regular fuel you are getting a little preignition on acceleration or pinging etc. I wouldn't worry about it, the pcm will quickly adjust for it. Try some premium and see if the noise goes away.

Direct injected motors make more noise, because the nozzle of the injector is
subjected to the compression ratio, so the springs are stronger. Also, what you may not be aware of, the injectors are initially opened with 48+ Volts, from two controllers with pull-up caps on the ECU mainboard. Once they are opened with that pulse, the 12V grounds are used to pulse them. Each bank has a controller. The 10-11s use the same ECU as the Euro cars, that Bosch one. The 12-15s have the Delphi, but the logic is the same. This is also why, when an injector fails, the ECU doesn't turn it back on. I had a P062B code, and once that set for #4 cylinder, I had to either reset the ECU while driving with a scan-tool, or turn the car off and on to get it working again. It all ended up being bad connections at the X2 header. I spread the pins apart, the old fashioned way, like in the old IDE/FDD header days... It's been fine ever since. I can also hear the HPFP... |
