GM's durability test(s) on the LS3/L99/LTT engines ?
I read in Newsweek http://www.newsweek.com/id/237905?from=rss the other day some thing that I thought was pretty impressive. The CEO of Hyundai USA, John Krafcik said in his interview: "For example, right now every Hyundai engine goes full-throttle red-line for 300 hours on a test stand." I'm not particularly a big fan of Hyundai vehicles, although they seem to be much better than they used to be several years ago, but that test and it's parameters just blew me away.
So that brought me to the question: What kind of durability tests did our LS3/L99/LTT engine go through to make it to production? |

Something is way off in that write up.
"....Every engine...300 hours..." That's 12+days of running a motor wide open. From a manufacturing prespective how logistically could that be done? Heck the motor would be ready for a rebuild when it hit the assembly line. can't be right.... |

I think he meant every engine design. Not every production engine.

GM probably does not do that to our camaros because they want us to break it in ourselves for the first 1500 miles.. you cannot even rev it over 4k rpm. I dont know which is better though.. a tested but already worn engine or a fresh not broken in engine.. |
