I know they are appreciative of courtesy from drivers of cars...I always try to give them respect on the road...it is a tough vehicle to drive, and when others are CLUELESS about how long it takes a tractor trailer to stop, and just cut right in front of them, I am amazed there aren't more accidents with truck vs car...

See, my end of the conversation would most likely start with "Ya, and?". Of course there is that cavity search to consider...

Whenever on on my bike in the same situation we always pat the top of our helmets to on comming riders, as a warning ahead for them. This is very common in CA for guys on bikes. Cars it never really works much...

Sorry, but this old guy just remembered 'a back in the day' light flashing courtesy. When getting ready to pass an 18-wheeler, we would flash our headlights to the 18-wheeler so the driver knew we were getting ready to pass. At that time flashing headlights did not mean to speed up, you are in my way, just indicating I am going to pass your big rig. Very important on two lane roads. The truck driver would then flash his lights so I knew it was safe to pass.

Also thought that after you passed them that was a way to let you know that you were clear of him.

What a jerk! He would have given you a ticket too had you been the one tailgating him. Two sets of rules: ours and, oh yeah, they don't have no stinkin rules do they!
