2004 Silverado Tuning

Can anyone recommend what type of tune for my 5.3 Silverado? I'm sort of new to this, but I've seen stand alone reflashed PCM's and handheld tuners, etc... I liked the idea of the handheld tuner and being able to switch back and forth between say a 87 octane tune and a 93 octane perfomance tune. Any companies for the tuning software you guys could recommend? Specific tuner hardware recommended?

Thanks guys!

HPTuners is a highly recommended system that allows you to create and share tunes for your car. It is specifically available for your application.

Thanks! Are these going to be professionally made tunes? Also will these tunes require additional dyno tuning? I'm just afraid of blowing up my baby... lol. I can rebuild a small block, but some of this computer tuning stuff is foreign to me..

like Blur said, HPTuners is a good company. Wait4Me Performance is another good one. (his program automatically switches between low & hi octane tunes depending on what you're running) just search around some other forums like fullsizechevy.com. there's plenty of guys on there that can share experiences.

Nice! Thanks for the info! One more question.... this hptuners... it looks like I can tune more than one vehicle. I know some of the other tuners will only let you do one tune at a time... is this different with hptuners? I would love to be able to tune my truck and my brothers 6.6 duramax! Also... am I going to have to pay for more "credits" every time I make a change to the car?

I haven't used it, but it was the primary tuning product for Cobalt SS users when I was a member of a Cobalt forum. Tunes can be found on forums, at dynos, or by making them without help.

You can tune as many vehicles as HPTuners has perimeters. You may have to buy uses, though. Think of it like a product license. You can only use it as many times as it is licensed.

Check performancetrucks.net tuning section EFI Live is great tuning software, but if your not comfortable doing your own tuning, there are others on the site that can tune for you by mail.

It looks like tuning is also available through Hypertech. They are also a well-respected and well-known company. They've been around since the days of slapping chips on cars. Now they can tune existing computers.

I'd stick to HPTuners, personally. I just remembered that company and did a product search. No one I know has used Hypertech or HPTuners, but I've seen a lot of praise for the HPTuners' product. Hypertech may not be the best. I've just heard of them before.
