What we are talking about is the times when you are driving to/home from somewhere, there is no traffic, and you speed slowly creeps above the PSL. (like 5-10 more), and you may get busted for it. |

HA! Then you are either extremely lucky, or never go faster. I got a ticket for 110 in a 65 zone on I-35 in central Texas... that was a mess.

This site lists what is legal and what is illegal in each state in the US, Canada, and even covers other countries.

Yes, and no...limitations...
He will write you for 10 over, but will write a cop if hes doing 20-30 over. Wrong or right? maybe so, I suppose the theory is not "this is my buddy"...it is "if I am getting shot at, this guy is coming to save my life". I know its hard to understand, but its similiar to the bond we've had in military (for those who have served)....its nothing personal or trying to offend citizens. Again, his personal experience and seeing death/injuries from that substantial speed.....and he does have a valid argument. I have never done 30 over when not responding to an emergency and it is hard to forgive when you see someone doing that...cop or not.. |

now, before you jump on my case this is coming from a officer who writes tickets to 15% of people he pulls over, and only cites for 20+ mph over the limit...and thats residential. Speed isnt a big deal to me with limits....red lights are my pet peeve. |

I’ve been very satisfied since I installed an Escort 8500 radar detector and Escort ZR3 laser "shifter" (i.e. jammer) system back in 2005 after getting a laser gun ticket on I-75.
Disclaimer #1: my experience is based on Florida where these devices are legal, so if you live in another state these devices may or may not be legal. With that said . . . Since installing the system I have not received any tickets. My travels are mostly in the southern half of the state of Florida including the major highways such as the Turnpike, I-95, I-75, etc. My radar detector is set to only detect Ka band. Based on my experience, I believe you can routinely travel 20mph over the posted speed limit without a ticket as long as you understand how these different systems work: Radar detectors: the objective is to detect radar being used on other vehicles in front of you. This is key. If you are detecting your car being clocked, it's too late. This is why you never want to be "on point" or all alone on the road with no one in front of you. Make sure there are other vehicles in front of you so you can detect them getting clocked which gives you enough time to slow down. Laser "Shifter": the objective is to confuse the laser gun in real time as it is clocking your vehicle, to prevent the gun's display from indicating your speed. Unlike radar, the laser gun is pointed specifically at the "target" car, usually at the front license plate, or at one of the headlights if there is no plate (I installed a front license plate to incent the officer to point at the plate to maximize both of my front transponders). A laser "detector", such as what comes with the Escort 8500 or Valentine V1, will not give you enough warning; indeed, all it's going to tell you is you've just been succesfully clocked! The ZR3 system, however, pulses light (you cannot see it) to confuse the laser gun and prevent a speed reading on the gun. Once you've slowed down to the desired speed, you can manually disable the "shifting" to prevent unwanted attention, since they usually make multiple attempts at you. I can say first hand, that when used properly both the 8500 and the ZR3 absolutely work and work well. I have experienced a number of "shifting" sessions, including where I can actually see the laser operator, and despite getting multiple hits both front and rear nothing happens. I'm including pics of my setup just to provide some ideas on how it might be configured in the Camaro. Hope this helps. |

How bout I inject a voice of reason here.
No more posts about Police Officers. If you all want to discuss the best set up to prevent tickets then so be it. I could care less if you like Police Officers or not. Any further posts in this thread making with any reference to Law Enforcement Officers won't be tolerated.

I wonder how widely lasers are used in comparison to radar?
