We used to call it a kitty corner...
Or maybe that was my 8 year old brain translating it wrong when my mom said it when I was a kid....I did that a lot

It took me forever to figure out WTF people wer talking about when I got here.
My ex-husband's dad was the best though (worst MA accent ever) when he used to talk about "corking" wine....oh...MYGOD

Note that there is sodium or potassium content in nearly every carbonated drink. Unless they're wanting the sour taste to be noticed.
okay so i was right in calling it soda thanks )

I think one of the funniest slang terms I ran into was "root" Apparently it's slang in Australia for "having sex" or often exchanged for the F word when referring to sex. as in "Lets go out back for a root" or "I wanna root all night with you" I found this out because I dated an Australian girl in High School and went to meet her parents wearing my Roots sweater.... big white letters on the front saying ROOTS... didn't go over well haha.

Here in Canada there are a couple. A chesterfield = couch, a touque = wool winter hat, and for some unknown reason people in Saskatchewan call a sweatshirt with a hood a "bunny hug". I still can't figure out why, I grew up in Ontario and we just called them hoodies.

I'm "going to see a man about a dog" - going to pee

I "might should" - should

When I was "knee-high to a grasshopper" - young / little

"dumb as a box of rocks" - duh

...you get the idea....

hydro = electricity, usually in reference to power from the utilities as opposed to say the electricity in a battery.
