I may back out - so confused. Do I want a first run car again? I dont think so. Do I need all this power no and yes I really dont plan on racing it or doing road courses. Of course I didnt plan that with my 2010 either Base price plus GGT, plus tax plus exposed cf plus $900 dest charge pushes it right at $60k. Plus I will have the sale of my 2010 (I hope). But having a 1st run car still concerns me. May just get a 2012 and upgrade that later

thinking out loud here...

I got my 2011 Camaro SS vert for 40k and I am going to buy the Hennessey HPE 650 for 13,500 installed which will give my Camaro 655 bhp which beat out the 725 hp Super Snake so it would in theory be faster than any Mustang they make for the next few years easily. I am sticking with my SS and going with Hennessey.

The ZL1 is a CTS-V underneath (which itself is a bit of ZR1), so it's not really a first run car. The key bits--mainly the drivetrain--are battle-tested already. Plus the ZL1 will share a whole ton of parts with the 2SS. So you're not really in any uncharted waters...

The 2013 GT500 is coming out in the spring of 2012 so I doubt we will see dealers adding a premium to the MSRP of the ZL1.

LOL...I knew this would happen! 580 bhp was way too easy for ford to beat. Most of the modded tuner SS camaros are way above that with suspension and drivetrain upgrades too (myself included). Yeah..you can mod your ZL1 but that dinky 1.9L SC will limit how far you can go with it...high price tag starting out and high price tag to mod...no warranty... If you have to be faster than the newest GT500 to sleep at night, this current ZL1 isn't worth it....would like a set of it's forged wheels though

I backed in. ha ha my wife said I was bing a P$ssy about the price.

I like the Zl1 looks better and for all the power they added to the GT500 in the past it never lapped a track for crap. Didn't want to loose my spot and have the GT500 turn out like it always has a fast car in a stairt line with poor balance.

There will be plenty of used low mile SS's to be had...drive it for a few days before you buy it..don't be gentle...buy for 30K then modd it up!! Suspension, drive train, wheels (forgestar CF5 or F-14) depending on how expensive your taste = 10K, super charger (vortech or whipple), headers, CAI, exhaust, tune = 10K and you are past the ZL1. Problem solved....just my .02

I can sure mode My 2011 SS for a lot less. I would sure be pissed if I traded in My pristine SS for a new ZL1 only to find out the new Mustangs where faster?
