Not that it matters but i am curious as to why you sold the z06? Surely not to buy a camaro or because gas mileage was terrible?
I loved that car. I put over $20K in that car, from S/C, top of the line sound system and etc.
Bottom line I needed money and I had to let her go. I still miss her.

BTW, my first car was a 68 VW

There is only one issue with C6, and that is C7 will be out mid 2013. That's about a year & half from now and your C6 value will drop like a rocket, where as the Camaro isn't changing that soon. That is the only problem I see.

For me it is a ZL1, I already have a 67 Vette in the garage. Unlike most of the members on this forum, this ZL1 will be my first Camaro. I have owned numerous Corvettes over the past 30 years and these are my observations. The Vette is a great cruising GT car that you can drive for hours and miles at a time in comfort with good gas mileage. You can put more luggage in a Vette than you can in a Camaro. Handling is wonderful and responsive and Vette's get the newest technology before it filters down to the other models. BUT... Vette's are very finicky. They will nit pick you to death. It always seems to be something small and irritating going wrong. Rarely will it be something big going wrong. They also sit a LOT lower than a Camaro and most other cars. Honestly, if you pick the Vette, I would rather have a 3LT with Magnetic Ride than a 4LT without it. If your dealer still will not let you drive the new Vette, find a 2010 or 11 on a used car lot and drive that. It is usually easier to drive a used Vette with miles than a new one in the showroom.

Having spent some time in 2010 & 11 rented Camaros, I find them very comfortable and easier to drive for long distances. I like sitting a little higher in the Camaro than a new Vette. I like that I have a true trunk with the Camaro instead of glass hatchback, even if it is a little smaller. A lot of technology goes into a Vette but the technology that went into the ZL1 is incredible!

My question to you MY68RS is: When you wake up at three o'clock in the morning and walk to the garage and open the door, what do want looking back at you saying, "Let's Ride !!"

Unless laws change and I'm allowed to strap the kids to the back bumper the ZL1 is what I need.

I don't know where you live but, Kerbeck Corvettes has the best prices in the country. They are just a vette dealer. Looked at vetees for years and they could beat that price. I still feel the ZL1 is much better from all points. Good luck!

My vote went to the GS. The reason is because I used to own one. I rarely touched it in my state, due to weather, so it was really a waste of cash. But I did enjoy it, it was fast, looked sexy after a wax, but I hated planning my evening around how much clearance I would have pulling into parking lots or whether I could dodge local road construction. What bothered me the most was how easy it was to get dents...ohhh the dents...

But there's a chance that my opinion would change, had I test drove a ZL1. But they are two different cars for two different purposes.

You gotta get what moves YOUR soul.

I went with the Challenger....in Green....thats what did it for me.

I would go with the ZL1......it's more special.......but it's close

Everyone that has a vette in some form of the C6 family they are not going to be a gem later. Look at the C5's now, the car is 7 years out of production and you can pick them up all day under 20k even some Z06's. Vettes always loose their value quick the 2012 Zl1 is going to be a low production car 1st of its kind. Look back in history on any low production car compare their values today.

My one buddy probably said it best: Men dont buy cars to impress chicks, they do it to make the next guy envious.

Either way if your on the fence about a vette vs a camaro go trolling on corvetteforum.com and check out the forsale section for Z06's that is a couple of years old youll save yourself 30 grand and have a car with under 10k miles. Z06 owners have more money than brains sometimes and they get bored with their toys and dump them.

I highly suggest you go over to www.corvetteforum.com & check with some of the supporting dealers on there for pricing. A discount of $12k-$15k is easily achieved and you could have it courtesy delivered to your local dealer for ~$300.00 .

Now,to answer some of your questions. I've been daily driving Corvettes for years and currently switch between a 2010 GS & 2007 Z06. They are both plenty comfortable, especially when you ditch the GY F1's. I went with the PS2's on mine, but there are less expensive alternatives if you'd rather.

As far as gas mileage goes, surprisingly enough the Z06 gets 1 mpg more overall than the GS does. At least in my experience. And the really weird part is I pretty much just cruise in the GS and beat on the Z06 each & every time I get in it.

Lastly, forget about any C6 Corvette holding value. The monster discounts offered on the new ones has really put the hammer on the used market.Iv'e seen more than one GS 3LT Vert($75k MSRP) in the Corvette Forums for sale section for $48k. How's that for a kick in the stones? I'd wager to trade in that $68k stickered GS on a new ZL1 in a year or so would cost you a minimum of $20k.

One last thing, and this is purely my opinion. Forget the new GS. You can get an 09 Z06 for the same money, maybe less. And someone else has already taken the big hit on depreciation. Plus, you'll have a car that will absolutely dust the GS in any performance situation.

Good luck & be sure to let us know your decision.

I sat in a GS when I ordered my ZL1. It is a nice car. But I'd always want that Z06 or ZR1.. I prefer the looks of the Camaro, and the ZL1 has great performance too.

I drove a GS for 6 weeks, have had an SS for over 2 years now; for me there is no conflict...hands down I would go with the ZL1, period. But that is me....you have to decide for yourself, and live with it! Maybe take another look at the vid with the 7:41 time on the Nur. track! before your final decision!

I have to admit that this is a tough call. I kind of have the best of both worlds since I have a Camaro and my wife has a C6. I will tell you that I was never much of a Corvette person until I drove one. It definitely is a beast. Much more comfortable and fun to drive than I ever expected.

I think others have hit the nail on the head. What moves you? What inspires you? I would have never bought the Corvette first because the Camaro has been in my heart for many many years. Figure out which of the two makes your heart race and buy that one. Good luck!
