Camaro Available... above MSRP... opinions?

Ok, so I have been pining for a new vehicle for over a year now. Thought I wanted a 09 Challenger and then fell in love with the 2010 Camaro. I didnt preorder one (the dealerships in the area wouldnt even TAKE my order back in Jan), so now they say I cant even DREAM of getting one until Jan of 2011 that they are presold that far out...

I am not in a rush to sell my current ride. It has no mechanical issues. Well, I WASNT ready to sell until this week. I was rear-ended on Monday. My 2000 Montero Sport with 99k miles (very low). Still waiting on the assessment and whether it will be totalled (which will force me to purchase a new vehicle), but it is still driveable...

Anyhow, I was looking for new cars and saw a dealership about 50 miles away had an ad for a camaro on autotrader.com. So I called yesterday and they said there is a waiting list, blah blah and maybe could get me one by September. Ugh.

Well, he just called today and said a camaro arrived and customer pulled his deposit. Do I want it? Today. Ready to go. It is yellow (I wanted orange or blue). Automatic (I wanted manual, but realize that would probably get old after the fun wears off and my wife cant drive a manual). And 2LT. Which I am fine with. I dont need the power that comes with the SS.

He wants $2k over MSRP. Supply and demand, I know...

I have been lurking this board and the challengertalk forum for months, what do you guys think? Hit me.

it sounds like the options on the available car are the options you want in your car. it boils down to personal preference. if only one option was not correct, maybe i would consider it. but two options incorrect and $2K above MSRP... just MHO

Get the one you want......do not settle just because it's a hot car. You will eventually regret it when you see one drive by like you originally wanted.

I would pay 2k over MSRP right now if it was the EXACT car I already ordered. This doesn't look to be the situation you have though. So I'd say wait and get exactly what you want if waiting is an option for with the wreck and all.

With enough digging online and enough phone calls you'll be able to find a dealer who can get you exactly what you want for MSRP by late summer, early fall. It sounds like the ones you talked to were really exaggerating the situation, trying to make you desperate for a Camaro so they could do exactly this - tell you one has fallen from the sky and you've got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pick it up RIGHT NOW if you'll just pony up a few thousand more.

You're paying $2000 over MSRP for a car color that you didn't want and paying for Auto when you wanted Manual.

I'd say don't get it. If it was exactly what you wanted, then $2000 over I could understand better for not waiting.

NO. Do not overpay for something that you don't want.

Hey guys, thanks for the advice. I guess I just needed to hear what I already knew. It's just HARD. Been driving the same vehicle for 10 years and want something NEW and really want a Camaro. Patience is a virtue as they say. Thanks again.

I would only pay 1000 over MSRP and it would have to be the exact trim and color I want. Don't over pay let alone even pay for something that is not 100 percent to your liking. If the color and trim is what you want then go for it, but don't pay that much over sticker.
