I waited until my Camaro would see at least a couple of months or a few thousand or so builds on the line hoping that most of the bugs would be out of assembly and most supplier issues dealt with, looks like I may be okay! My build is slated for week of 25/5! But Aye! I may suffer something of a different delay......GM bankruptcy !! If my car is built and outside before GM files I will likely get it, if not I may lose up to 6-8 weeks! Blah ! But patience ......I have faith that in the end I will have an awesome new age Chevy Camaro SS and many stories to tell about the launch of the 5th Gen Camaro and the shared stories on the best Camaro forum online !!
None of this I would have enjoyed had I waited till 2011 and just walked in and purchased one!
I've been scanning this message board for a few months looking for news and pics on the 2010 Camaro, but I finally decided to join up. Anyways, i recently was deciding between getting a Camaro or G8 and decided to order a CGM 2LT M6! One of the reasons is that I thought it would be fun to order something hot and new and even though the wait is painful, I kinda enjoy the anticipation and built up excitement that were all feeling versus just buying something off the lot. Frustration obviously sets in as we wait, especially for those with a car in QC, but GM needs $$ and they want to get these cars into our hands as fast as possible, but they also want to make sure the cars are done right. Hopefully the bankruptcy doesn't stop production, I thought John Fitzpatrick said on the camaroz28 podcast that Camaro production will continue w/ no shutdown, despite a bankruptcy filing?

Well, That interview was like listening to a SOFTBALL game...

I doubt if Fitzpatrick has any authority to even say that they can still build cars during CH 11. Good thing he alerted us on the rear bumper paint problem, NOT!!

There are some Area 51 guys waiting over a month already. You would think someone over at GM would call those people. That's pretty sad.

There is an order status department. At the DBC.

There are 2 reasons Camaros are on hold.
1. Battery recall
2. Painted rear bumper

1. Battery recall - Does not take to long to fix. There were just over 1352 SS that left the plant that needed recalled for the fix. Starting 5/14 the plant is going through the cars on hold in QC to fix the Battery issue so they can be shipped. Notification will be going out via letter on 5/15 to people that currently have there cars about this.

2. Painted rear bumper - Fix time is up to 3 months
There seems to be some type of defect on some of the Camaros. I was not told how many are on hold at this time. Given the amount of time they are stating it has to be quite a few cars.

A little more information on bankruptcy. "If" GM does file the production for Camaros will stop for a small time period but every car that is produced will still be delivered during this time.

My car has the battery hold Thank god so my dealer should get my car by end of May.

I am not sure if this is public knowledge but at least we know what is going on, making it a tad easier.

Are you sure this is all that's going on? Is there another issue we haven't heard about?
I read a post in different forum where a guy said his car was built on 5/7 (same day as mine, 8000s vin #) and he was told his car would be in QC for at least a month!
If that's true, my heads going to start spinning.

Could be more that is all the info I found out thus far. My car has been in QC for a month today for a 30 min battery fix...

3 MONTHS ????????

I will repaint it myself....... I have to repaint the GFX anyways...

Or, if they insist on fixing it, send a painted bumper to my dealer when it is ready..... b/c I don’t mind driving around for a few weeks with an imperfection in the paint

Or, give me $300 off of the price of the car......

Or, build me a new car on the production line.... and fix this lemon later.... make it a dealer stock car.

....... 3 MONTHS???????

Seriously......c’mon GM........ 3 MONTHS ????????

They seriously need to fire the director of QC.

If customer satisfaction isn't their #1 priority... what is?

btw,

what about the issues with:

1) Window indexing
2) Power steering pumps
3) Brake weights
4) Interior trim panels

Are these all non-issues now? ......... b/c before this thread....... I thought that these were the main reasons for the QC Hold.

........ or are there now 6 items on their checklist?

ONLY 8000 cars already built to be fixed. How nice...that should'nt take long based on how long it took GM to fix the first 1500 or so (two months?) that were initially built. Oh wait....you mean some of those cars are not yet in the hands of their owners? Sorry guys.
Ah don't worry about it if you ordered in October and don't have your car yet....the people that ordered in April will have their cars next week. Yours will just be more valuable later on because they have lower vehicle numbers. This is really screwed up.....

I don't understand how the battery cable issue can be the reason they are holding up cars. Some cars are being delivered off the line (as high as VIN's in the mid 8000 range). If the battery cable is insufficiently designed or made, wouldn't that affect ALL cars not just some. Wouldn't all cars go to QC not just some.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I don't think the battery cable issue is the real problem, or even one of the real problems. At least not for any cars with VIN's over about 6000, and they are continuing to hold lots of cars in QC over 6000 (just look at the other thread started on that topic).

I mean really, some of you guys/gals have had your car in QC for 5-6 weeks (I can't complain too much, I've only been there 11 days).

They should have built new cars for these customers weeks ago. Fix the cars and ship them later to someone else that had there order picked up later, or not even picked up yet.

Come on, there aren't that many option combos. Someone is going to to have ordered the exact same car. Or, like you said.... dealer stock.

It really hasn't been a good game plan here.
