You might pick up a few more once its broke in but not a lot. 13-15 in the city sounds about right. Yes gas milage is on peoples minds, otherwise GM wouldnt be boasting the gas mileage on it. And you can bet your ace if gas was 4 bucks a gallon these wouldnt be selling as hott and if gas does go up your going to see some trades ins. I wouldnt do it but you got to figure a lot of people dont always have the money to afford these cars and their upkeep.

well..... Your Milage will get better .....Why you ask, two reasons:

1) the car- engine is brandy new with brandy new oil all around when the engine breaks in and the gears seat and find there place in life.

2) You ( most importantly) - you will develop a feel for the car know when to shift, know when to lift the pedal, know when how to brake, know how the car rolls, know your commute your hills and valleys....

You are the biggest factor in the milage. Become one with your beeeeeyooouuutiful car.

Regardless of what car the man bought he has every right to be concerned over gas mileage. If it were a Ferarri then I'd laugh, but this is a car priced to be within reach of most people including those effected by high gas prices. Fact is though this is a V8 with better milage than most others found in comparable vehicles. After a few comparisons made with competing cars with 6's it really doesn't matter that much because the discrepancies are negligible. I was on the fence forever, but after driving the V6 Cam I realized an 8 is truly the only way to go. For me.

Most vette's show increased fuel mileage after a several thousand miles, Camaro's could be the same. I noticed my MPG increased around the 7500 mile mark. It took my 08 Accord over 10K miles before I started getting the MPG I was expecting.

Roll up some more miles and keep careful logs. You'll see an improvement.

ya GM's vehicles, especially the V8's I have seen tend to get better mileage once you get around 10k mile mark. Most recent example..My dad bought a new 08 Silverado last September and we ended up driving cross country with it shortly after (maybe 2-3k miles only on the truck) and we averaged around 18mpg, and he does a fair amount of 300+mile trips once or twice a week ussually and was getting 18mpg on average for those as well.

I was talking with him the other day and he said on his hwy trips he is NOW averaging 20-21mpg (I am guessing he has around 10k miles on the truck now). That truck also has the AFM on it as well.

Give it time, she will do better, I am even going to say I gaurantee it!

I can't believe that's all it's getting. My Corvette is getting realistically 30 on the highway in 6th gear. Please tell me these figures on the camaro are off?

MY 4th Gen SS was at about 7000 km when she started to pick up power and milage improved markedly !! My 2007 "New Style" Silverado was at abotu 11,000 (yes 11 thousand) Km when it broke in. It depends on alot of variables. Where you engine parts fit tolerances were at, driving, actual tolerances on engine part fitment, type of gas, oil change , for example if you use synthetic from day one iy may never improve cause synthetic oil is so good at lubrication the rings just do not wear. I allways use regular oil for a couple of changes till I feel the break in.......belive me you feel it, it's liek you were just draggin ass for weeks or months cause you dont sleep well or whatever then all od a sudden you feel like a million !!!! You can feel the pick up in power and the milage improvements ! So if you dont have a feel for it you may never notice anything except better MPG ! In that case you have to keep good records or trust the DIC !!

Just enjoy the ride !

mmmmmmmmmm.......

Scott -- mileage always improves with time.......as you put more miles on the car......

(......and by the way -- weren't YOU the guy that wrote us wanting to know about breaking the rear tires loose? I don't know how many times you tried that, but I guarantee you that this drops gas mileage!!!

........plus, let's face it -- the Camaro just BEGS to be driven at full throttle from a standstill!!!....) (not that I'm saying you should do that.............)

Not quite a full tank thru #8115 yet.
The DIC is telling me 13.9 mpg. And YES
I have been getting on it quite a bit.
Only about 10% has been highway driving.

I would imagine the numbers should go up
pretty far.

The question I am wanting to know about is this

It has been said that the engine is set to "run rich"
during break in. Will the computer automatically
change the mix over time or is it something we have to do?

Not bad Scott, is it improving since the first couple thousand?

8,000 miles ? Great Scott !!

Do you sleep in Thor?

Do the front seats fully recline or do you put the back seat down and your feet in the trunk. Tell me you keep pillows and blankets in the trunk... lol
