I might have to take all the comments in here and put them into a separate document to understand it all thanks again guys.
I've heard that the stock tuning starts to pull out timing at 195F coolant temps. Though someone else said that timing is pulled when the IAT's start going over a certain value. It totally sucks when you are in the staging lanes and the coolant temps hit 205F before even making a pass. Based on my experience I lose 1-2 tenths when the temps get in the 205-210F range. I believe stock commands the fan on at 205F, so if I had them come on at 195F would that keep the car cooler idling in the staging lanes? As for the other tuning suggestions, I'm at a loss. I guess I should eventually buy HPT and tinker with the settings at the track. Back in the day we just talked about shift points, shift firmness (line pressure), having the (aftermarket) converter lock up later if it was a big one...

Then, do a run and log KR. If you get any, then reduce timing in the individual cells effected (in the high octane table). This way, your timing for each run will be more consistent. Padre |

Thanks that makes a lot of sense, I wouldn't want to bother making passes above 210F for sure.

nope, 2 fans either on or off,, the vettes e38 are variable speed but not the camaro's,, camaro has no fan module, just on / off relay for each fan. unless you are calling low speed vs high speed a variable fan but its not, the vettes have an actual variable speed pulse width modulated fan with fan control module.
here is the camaro fan wiring diagram:

Then why in HPT can you select the percentage the fans are on? And the stock settings ramp up the percentages.

read my explanation in post 18 and follow the arrows,, http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=158165 the e38 ecm has the same tables as the vette that does have an actuall variable fan,, the camaro only has 2 on/off fans but uses the same table to command the relays for them on or off,, the % table does nothing but transfer over to the fan output table. 0=fan off 1=fan on no variable speed

I know the logic used is confusing John, but they aren't variable speed.

I get what you guys are saying now. The tables are the same as the Vette, but the fans are not variable speed on the Camaro.
