The "bolts" on mine fell off...went to Holmes Depot (where the homies work) and got some bolts, nuts, and washers for about 15 bones. Until I can justify spending $70+ for the GM ones, I hope that I don't hit anything serious!

Maybe if I understood the purpose of that cheap plastic piece it would be easier to drop the cash to buy break away bolts. Does anybody know the true purpose of it?

You might give these guys a call... I buy a lot of the GM "Christmas Tree" type connectors from them.

www.clipsandfasteners.com

Nothing came up when I searched for your part number, but they might know an alternate part# if you call them. Or you can find something with the same dimensions on their site that'll work. With any part number you find, try an EBay search to see if you can buy a bag of 50 for $8.00 (I've done this for trim clips a few times).

Yes i do, i caught mine on one of the stone blocks the spike down, i did not see the steal rebarb sticking up above it at my mother's dr office. Well when i backed out it pulled the front of the fascia out above the parking light on the side, ripped the hole out where it bolts on. On the picture below its the hole above the parking light. I had glued mine with gorilla glue.
So that is what the break away ones are for, so the bottom rubber piece pulls off and not the fascia connections.

I know the purpose of the breakaway connectors. Just not the purpose of the rubber piece.

The rubber piece splits the air so there is less lift at high speeds.
