I think I will head over to Wally World and get an Optima, maybe right now!
It is a 2010 we bought new in August of 2009. The car currently has 43K miles and this is the only problem we've ever had with the car. I'll follow-up with the dealer and see about any recalls on battery cables- Thank you

So an Optima Gell Cell battery won't work?

My Walmart carries Red and Yellow tops in stock.

I recently had a battery blow in my whole house generator. It's very well vented so it's a complete mystery why it blew up. It was only a couple of years old and only gets charged once a week when the generator cycles on and runs for 5 minutes.

I would love to know why your's blew up, maybe it would be an explanation why mine blew up.

I was thinking the same thing..... "Optima Battery" . But, when I went on-line and entered the year/make/model for which size optima battery...... there was NO CAMARO option. It listed Corvette and all the Chevrolet trucks, but no Camaro.

I didn't want to chance it, so I got a lead/acid replacement with a vent where I could reinstall the factory vent tube.

I think yours might have frozen causing your problem.

A friend was tinkering under the hood when his battery blew. I was 20 feet away, thought that it was a bomb. Shattered my friend's coke- bottle glasses, but the lenses were able to stop the acid from getting into his eyes.... other fragments of the battery dented the hood of the Mercedes, from the underside out.

Then a couple of years ago, I was helping an elderly friend fire up a riding lawn mower with electric start. We were inside a small shed. When that little battery blew, it was shell shock: Heard a muffled "whump" then everything was silent. We were both utterly disoriented, stumbled out of the shed. The silence led to ringing, and later we resumed hearing ambient noise... but it was days before the ringing disappeared. My clothing was wrecked: Hundreds of droplets of acid ate hundreds of holes in my clothing. It should be noted that while I was quite stunned by the event, the old man just sort of acted like this had happened to him 100 times before... and maybe it had. That crusty ol' dude was tinkering with the lawn mower within two minutes after the explosion... at that point I was still uttering expletives, and trying to regain my hearing and my senses.

Batteries can really pack a punch. (Even the little ones: Don't throw those little tiny hearing-aid style batteries in a fire, unless you are ready for at least an M-80 volume bang!)

My Grandfather is completely blind from battery acid exploding into his face when he was in a head on collision about 10 years ago.

Some times there could be a defect in the cell during production, caused by an air bubble in the plastic, so as heat and cold cycle, the air expands and contracts until the casing cracks. Acid and plastic react because it's looking for the simple release of pressure, add heat and kaboom. Had it happen on my last car, a 2007 accord with a two year old battery.

If you had the battery cables that were to small you should of received a recall notice, though your car may of been in the window....you should be able to call a dealer and give them your vin and they should be able to look up and see if it was on recall. Will save you a drive.

I believe the smaller cables caused fires though, so probably not it, just a bad battery most likely. Doesn't hurt to check though.......

Cell phone batteries also explode.
You can also call your Camaro "787 Dreamliner".
