+1 (to infinity)
The new grill is squashed.
Airflow(ZL1 w/o Flowtie) > Airflow (Z28 w flowtie)

+1 every 2012-2013 Zl1 has better air flow through the grill area if it just comes down to the size of the opening, plus isn't the hood extractor on the Zl1 much larger and moves more air (volume)than the one from the SS camaro which the Z28 has as well ?

Unless GM is going to come up with some crap about how the smaller opening moves more air because the smaller opening causes the air to move faster or some B.S. helping at lower speeds.

I got banned from the Z28 forum for saying such humorous things! haha. hurt the Z28 fan boy's feelings. I was saying way back then that there is no way the Z28 would beat the ZL1 on the ring, by anything more than 3 or 4 seconds due to the race slicks. Z28 fan boys were claiming 7:24 times were expected (Z06 territory) I threw the "retard" flag and got banned. The Z28 folks got sooo upset. I got a laugh out of it, and then I got validation when the Z28 ring time was announced. Love my ZL1.

I have a ZL1 grille (with SS badge) on my car. The flowtie actually is interesting to me just as something different. I'd considered taking the insert out of the existing bowtie and doing something else with it when plastidipping it but didn't have any grand ideas. I'm tempted to take a shot at cutting out the back of an extra bowtie to see if it could be secured by expoy in the outline on the grille. If that works, cut the back of the outline out and that's that.
I'm not expecting performance gains, just another subtle mod that I'd like on my car.

While NOT a gimmick , I love how creative advertising brings to life the "FLOWTIE" that actually was first shown 4 years ago on SSX concept camaro

Since you brought it up, I say run the ring again , but with same tires/wheels on Z/28 put on the ZL1 and I bet the times would be very very close if not equaled

I am just baffled by the ZL1 hate. Don't get me wrong I really like the Z/28 but I LOVE my ZL1 and nothing can replace that ZL whine of the blower when you step on it. I just very kindly, IMHO, said that I would like to see a fair back to back comparison of the ZL and the Z/28, same tires, driver, yada, yada, yada. Apparently this is similar to taking their first born and offering it as a sacrifice to the volcano gods because they lost their freaking minds. But I will take an opportunity to race against one if I get the chance.

Note:
Please don't Freak Out, I mean nothing against the Z/28, or your gods, the volcano you grew up near or whatever else. This is an online forum, we are not solving world hunger on here.

When the z28 ran it was raining and had wet tracks...gm wants to go back to rerun...they had much faster unofficial times though. I also love my 2012 zl1!!

Very easy. The brakes and LS7 engine makes a big jump in price, plus economics of scale. With out lots being made to recover the engineering cost is also in the price.
