One thing no one has commented on is the weight distribution of the cars, so here they are:

car front rear

ZL1 51 49
GT500 55 45
Challenger 53 47

Now I don't know about you, but cars with the greater the difference in front to rear weights with the front being heavier, the harder it is for that car to turn. Pure physics. I do alot of straight line racing, but also do turns, so I look for a car to be balanced. That's one big reason the GT500 gets slower the more laps and turns it does. Also the figure for the challenger is not for the hellcat, so I expect it to be even more front heavy. So give me a ZL1 any day, it may not have the most power, but can put the most power and traction to the ground of the three. Which will result in the ZL1 beating the competition consistently.

IMHO

Since the Z06 has 650HP I would think dodge has to exceed that number. They need to put a wider rear rim than 9.5" on the Hellcat. The GT500 has a 9.5" rear rim and it's to small. The 8 speed auto on the Hellcat should help its quarter times.

Why would Dodge have to exceed that number? The Challenger and the Corvette are two different markets. Even with more HP the Challenger will still almost certainly be slower than the Z06 . And if they are anything like GM they will not allow the Challenger to have more HP than the Viper which is rated at 640 HP

You are 100% correct, your average driver is not going to get the 392 into the 12:20s but the right conditions and skills it's possible. I made no.3 on your list simply staging with all the nannies (TC) on, the car in auto stick, and launching at 1000-rpms. Off the TC, I would run 12:90s as 1st gear was useless.

You're right about that. And if the Hellcat does go in the 650 range, the Viper is dead meat, unless it gets up over 700.

I think all of this is rather pointless. Horsepower is relatively easy to make on a V8, and cheap compared to certain other mills.

If all you want is horsepower, spend $20k and get an econobox with a crate 350 and some FI and go wild. I've seen, in my lifetime, a 600+ hp Cobalt SS, a late 80s Dodge Caravan with a 4G63 swap, and a few small blocks with home-baked FI setups that would put all of these production cars to shame on the street and some even at the strip.

There will ALWAYS be someone faster, or with more horsepower. Always. If you buy the top-of-the-line most HP from any automaker, you need only wait a year to generally be humbled. Sometimes by the same model you own.

Too much focus on numbers and not enough on enjoying what we have.

The Hellcat comes in at 707HP and 650Torque. This is a problem for the Gen 6 ZL1 camaro as it will probably have the LT4 engine detuned to less than the Z06.

Late to the party but will be the new stock drag racing king on racing rubber and with the 8 speed. On the street with stock tires probably not so much.

I think dodge may either be making a mistake or are going to msrp the car for 70k+. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me considering even ford is backing the hp down and not continuing the gt500.

I also wonder if they are going to throw 245s on it and call it a day per.

I Luv IT!! It should be a 10 second car on dr's. The only thing that will hold that car back would probably be its' weight. I would imagine it being somewhere in the neighborhood of 4400 lbs. My guess is it'll probably be pretty expensive too.

The web site topspeed has posted the price for the hellcat at 45k.If that is the case dodge will not be able to keep those cars on the lot.I know I would be a buyer for that price and park it next to my Z! I do not know about you all but I think these high horsepower cars are not going to be built much longer because big brother will stop the car companies from building them or the insurance compaines will step in and say enough is enough. That is what happened back in the late 60's early 70's so it may be just around the corner that we all sit and post about the cars that were built again with the high HP.

+1

The SRT 392 base sticker is $47k. If Dodge is smart the will price it at the same as the ZL1 and GT500.
