Tuned
Bought my ss with cai headers and exhaust done already. But things didnt feel just right to me . So then i meet phil from tampa tuning on here. We discussed some thing and i made appointment to go see him. He took car for drive and then right onto dyno. First pull blow black smoke out exhaust and he notice knock sensors were are messed jp in the programming. And it was running really really rich. So after couple hour of his magic it ended up at 420 hp and 406 flbs of torque. And the car is a different car. And now enhine is safer because he got knock sensors working like they should. Also tuned out the decel pop for me
.I would recommend anybody who is wanting a tune or thinking about a tune to message him in here or give him a call you wont be disappointed. Thanks again phil at tampa tuning you made car fun to drive again. Your friend tom |

Nice. Did Phil notice if the car was tuned previously? Was it just tuned incorrectly or not tuned at all? Usually cai and headers won't run badly unless on stock tune, it will just throw a CEL from not having the o2 sensors tuned out. Sounds like the previous tuner didn't know what they were doing.

So hoping to save vinny1980 a buck, I told him I didn't want to pull the tune off the car first because it would clear codes and can reset the computer and the fuel trims. So when he arrived, per our discussion, I intended to sell him a Vmax ported throttle. I remove his air intake tube, and see his throttle body is already ported, but it looked like hand ported. No sense throwing a Vmax on it because it looked like a Vmax with additional hand sanding. I didn't remove the throttle body to see if it had a Vmax serial number, because I really didn't think that was the problem.
I said let me take it for a 5 minute ride just to get a scan before I pull the tune off. I scoot up to the traffic light and back, and review the scan. Im seeing the fuel trims were adding 5-6% fuel. Not looking at the tune yet, I said lets put it on the dyno and see how it pulls. I strap it down, get the fans on it, do a base line, and this is what I see. 8* of knock and AFR of 10.70 I noticed how fast it was trying to clear the knock during the scan, and how rich it was. I told Vinny that I was going to find the tune loaded up on fuel and timing, with numbed up knock sensors. I could already tell who tuned the car based on what it was doing. It this point I pulled the tune off the car, reverted a lot of it back to stock, and loaded my baseline to start working on it. Folks like Phil knows EVERYTHING about those colorful lines and whether they are in the "good" range or the "bad" range. After making that determination, folks like Phil can adjust it to the "good" reading PROPERLY.
I like posts where folks say Phil sends them "tweaks" to get an already tuned car dialed in to Phil's (and surely the customer's) satisfaction.
