I'll actually be in Stl a few weeks from now.

I have a procharged 1SS and it's a lot of power.
If I had another 10K in my budget I would have done a ZL1 without any hesitation.

If you can't find another supercharged SS before then send me a PM and we can take her for a ride

Forgot to mention - you keep your warranty on your ZL1, but if you supercharge a new car you don't have one. The drivetrain on a ZL1 is more suited to handle FI as well.

Hope this helps!

ZL1. And I say that as someone who factory ordered a 2014 2SS/RS then put another $6k into various performance mods that netted another 50 hp + wheels and tires. The Magno-shocks can only be had on the ZL1 and you won't need any perf mods. So, there you go. Easy choice.

+1. Mag ride, brakes, wheels, launch control.............

2013 ZL1 would be my choice, don't like the 2014+ tail and 2012 doesn't have the touch screen.
Most of the advantages have been mentioned but there are some things to consider that are small but things to think about.

1. Hand wash only... no drive though car washes
2. Clearance. Easy to scrape the front depending on where you drive
also if not careful some speed bumps will get you.
3. Ride, guessing a little stiffer than a SS. would not like if had to drive on
rough roads often or hit a lot of speed bumps
4. Stock tires are no good in the cold... slick at 50 and below
5. Expect to go through tires... I tend to light them up often just daily
driving.
6. Expect to drive faster, it's just too easy
7. Some passengers will scream and tell you to stop doing that
8. Availability, lot more out there now but few when I was looking

Other than that it's perfect, find one and buy it!

The timing on this thread is clutch because I am actually going out tomorrow to see two camaros: 2015 1LE and a 2013 CPO ZL1 w/ 3k miles.

Tough, tough decision.

Unless you are really going to track your car on a regular basis, you will get much more daily from a ZL1. While 426 stock HP sounds like a lot, you will quickly find it needing some help--and in CA, you cannot mod LTs, which are essential for making power out of a NA LS3. Problem solved by the factory for all CA residents: LSA.

And if I lived in CA, I would definitely get a convertible. Hell, I did and I live in Indiana. I'll never consider a fixed roof Camaro again. I did have to buy a $20,000 mod for the Camaro though--a used Tahoe--so she could become a garage queen in winter.

Its more in what you want than you know....you say a garage queen yet it may just turn out to be the what you want is not what you get........... The driving is addictive, so is the modding. Sure you will start with a 580 h.p. supercharged lsa engine with the 1.9 liter supercharger.... then well how about a pulley change..up the power etc and a few thousand later...a new intercooler and a ac/ r/x chiller and then why not a bigger supercharger and ...... For me knowing I could get the zl1 or a 2ss I got what I wanted a 2ss... mine is a daily driver road trip car and its naturally aspirated with about 550 hp flywheel and 500 torque so far. Its plenty fine and I am on building the rear end now. And if your thinking of trading it in you will of course be at least flushing five grand in a couple years. Also summer only tires are really summer only tires when you step away from the Pirellis and really more so in your location. And as I said a few thousand (5 with tune dyno etc...)and your tune good with cam and headers and a good cai your around the stock power of the zl1 and do not have to worry about the supercharging, sure handling is a nice thing but I was always looking at having to change the tires right away here in rainy Oregon for a zl1 to be my daily..... and yes you will be wishing all winter long you could drive the zl1......
Its more in all what you want more than anything, and a reason why you do not see more zl1's on the street... but more ss. And BTW yes I am building my rear end and suspension and it will be better than a 1le if not already in handling and made more to withstand the power I put to the ground without doing one legged burnouts or wheel hopping my rear axles to death. And I imagine it gets pretty nasty in the winter up there.... oh and yes 45 for a used zl1 with only 6k on the odometer is going to be very hard to find and who knows how hammered on, and the warranty ...... this is my second 2ss so for three years I have owned gen fives.... never a problem ..one a vert l99 one a coupe ls3....the recalls for stuff...never anything that important after they ironed out stuff in the early model year... so get over twenty MPG like me on the freeway going 80.... and 12-13 stoplight to stop light around town after mods or going to zl1 will cost you even more in gas mileage compared to a stock ss mileage ....and yes you will want to drive it all the time...... as another lesser vehicle is a rotten red headed step child..... I drive a front wheel drive Malibu 2012 once a year when its too deep of snow...... lol yes it has a few thousand miles on it thanks to our daughter learning to drive something............ Its all in what you want, whats more practical may not be what you really want but.... its better in the long run to be right about a choice than wishing you had done something else. And frankly zl1s are supposed to be around 60k for a good one with good options..... A 2ss with all the options 40.... ANd the most buildable of new modern muscle cars right off the bat. If your a motor head your into that stuff, if not...... the warranty will run out someday.
