Yet another change of plans!
  • Canceled APEX wheels order. I'll do with one set of wheels to save a bit of money.
  • I just ordered the complete Z/28 suspension kit from Pace Performance! Alas, I don't need the BC Racing ER coilovers for 2014+ cars anymore, so I put it up on sale.
  • Likewise, I also don't need the BMR sway bar kit anymore; I shall put it up on sale soon, too.
  • With the changes, the car should now be complete. I had a huge brainstorm on what to do with the brakes, but eventually decided to not upgrade to CTS-V brakes since it would increase weight. I'm seriously considering other BBKs, though. Wilwood's price point is just right, and I'd get it in an instant, if only it came with 15" rotors. 14.25" rotors just don't feel like an upgrade over stock 14" rotors, even though they would cool better.

Z/28 kit:
Front and rear complete DSSV struts
Front and rear sway bars and end links
Front control arms
Rear upper and lower arms

Brake systems weight analysis:
I got StopTech weights directly from them:
ST-60 Caliper w/ Typical Bracket & Pads
Caliper: 34/36/38x32 8.786
Pads: 63-400-0060 (2 Pads) 2.884
Bracket: 36-330-8615 1.398
Total 13.068 lbs

380x32mm AeroRotor w/ Typical Hat & Hardware 17.450
Typical 380mm Hat & Hardware 3.750
Total 21.200
Grand total for this 15" system is 34.268 lbs.

In comparison, stock caliper is about 12 lbs with pads. However, stock rotor is 25.15 lbs. The total is about 37.15 lbs.

I do not know the weight of stock CTS-V caliper, but it's substantially bigger than the stock. My guess would be at least about 14 lbs. The two piece ZL1 rotors are about 27.5 lbs, bringing the r total to about 41.5 lbs.

So there you have it, the monster 15" StopTech system is only marginally lighter than the stock system, yet it's almost 7.5 lbs per wheel lighter than the comparable OEM (CTS-V) 15" system. CTS-V brakes cost so much less, though, so I might still pull the trigger one day Wilwoods weigh similar to StopTechs, but only with 14.25" diameter.

X25,
Which fuse did you replace with the blown smart fuse to disable Skip Shift? I was reading the manual the other day but didn't see anything on the diagram that I could attribute to the skip shift function.

thanks

Did you see one that says manual transmission solenoid?

As usual, one change begets the other. I'll hopefully stop here and not much more (except the tires, etc.)

I was looking for a reference to Skip Shift or CAGS.

Thanks for the pointer

I have been reading the Z/28 section tonight in hopes of getting pointers about mods the Z/28 suspension might require, but could not find anything. Actually, there is very little information available in terms of track performance and feedback outside of magazine reviews.

Do any of you guys know about Z/28 suspension?
- Would it substantially benefit from camber plates?
- How are the sway bars? Z/28 suspension kit comes with much smaller sways, which is great if the shocks are stiff enough to reduce body movement. Let's dive into this a bit more...

Z/28 sways vs. 1LE sways vs. BMR sways
  • Z/28: Fronts solid 25mm, rears solid 26 mm.
  • 1LE: Fronts soild 28mm, rears sold 27 mm.
  • BMR: Fronts hollow 29mm, rears hollow 32mm; both adjustable.

From BMR site:
Quote:
FRONT
Hole 1 (Boot-Leg end of bracket) 98% stiffer than OE bar
Hole 2 (Center) 146% stiffer than OE bar
Hole 3 (Flat end of bracket) 214% stiffer than OE bar

REAR
OE SS bar (FE4)
-Hole number 1 provides just over 100% increase in rate over the factory FE4 bar
-Hole number 2 is 150%
-Hole number 3 is 200%

OE ZL1 bar (FE5)
-Hole number 1 provides just over 25% increase in rate over the factory FE4 bar
-Hole number 2 is 40%
-Hole number 3 is 75%
The question: If you were me, would you use the BMR sways (already installed), or use the Z/28 sways that come with the package? I still have the OEM 1LE sways, too.

I have always been against stiff sway bars since they reduce traction when they are used to reduce the body roll caused by springs/struts that are too soft for the application. FYI, the Z/28 springs are %85 stiffer at the front, and %65 at the rear. I like the adjustability of the BMR sways, but they might be too stiff even at their softest. They were much lighter than stock bars due to having hollow construction, though, which was great!

I would keep the z28 sways since you have the hole suspension package and it's designed to work together . Plus you have almost the same wheel and tire package as the z28 . What was the price on the 19x11 all around and weight?

The price for the wheels was $1620 shipped.
CF5V
19x11 ET17 fronts
19x11 ET40 rears.

I expect the weight to be right at 24 lbs; 2+ lbs weight advantage over stock Z/28 wheels per wheel.

I put the sways on sale last night; we'll see.
