2010 tire pressure sensors in a 2013 problem

Hopefully someone can help me on this. Today I installed a set of 2010 wheels on a 2013. The procedure for resetting the 2013 sensors is to have the dealer use the special tool to do it.

The tool would not recognize the sensors at all. Verified the tool was good on two other cars.

The procedure for resetting the 2010 sensors is to either increase/decrease tire pressure on the drivers left front tire until the horn beeps. Then go to the other tires. We did not try (didn't think about trying it at the time) this procedure.

Has anyone else experienced this? Got any suggestions? I really hate to have to spend hundreds of $$$ to buy 2013 sensors.

Thanks!

Every year i put on snow tires and you start from drivers front `and go clockwise , you have to put your key to on position and get to the reset tpms on your dic ,before doing this , never had a problem , and i find it hard to believe that you have to take it to a dealer with a special tool to do this , I might be wrong ? as i have no experience or knowledge except for my 2010

The 2013 Camaro's require the special tool to reset the sensors, unlike the 2010 that only requires the tire pressure to be inflated/deflated. As I mentioned earlier, I didn't think about trying the 2010 procedure on the 2013 which is where the wheels/tires are now.

Ok yep just looked it up and Ebay has a bunch of different types for sale $250.00 for the GM unit , Aint that a bitch , Worked just fine letting out pressure or increasing it to relearn the system and now they got a fancy tool that doesn't work on your car . Must of worked too good the old way . Good Luck , I would just use a pressure gauge and save your money

I don't know if GM changed the sensors between 2010 and 2013 or not, but they definitely changed the programming procedure. Sometime during 2011 they removed the ability for the owner to program the TPMS without the tool. The 2010 procedure definitely will not work on a 2013. My assumption is that they did this for dealer revenue enhancement. If you cannot get the TPMS system to recognize the sensors with the tool, I'd say that you either have the wrong sensors or the batteries are flat in them. They will have to be replaced. I haven't tried to buy Camaro sensors, but I bought a set for my "08 HHR SS on e-bay for $25 a piece.

This is not accurate, as I have used the old procedure (going wheel to wheel letting air pressure out) on my 2012 more than once (with different sets of wheels even).
