I would use NewEra or a Vararam OTR CAI. Try this for simple realization..... Drive down the highway at the speed limit I may add. Roll down your window and make yourself yawn.... Then stick your head all the way out the window like Ace Ventura in Pet Detective and yawn again. I bet you choke a bit from the air being rammed down your windpipe, or from the bug you just swallowed!! Your car is seeing the same basic principal. Ram air is always optimal IMO.
My NewEra picked up MPH in the quarter with no tune changes....

^^I would buy the new era OTR but you need to tune it. Its a true ram air and that works best.

But the Z/28 CAI voiding the warranty on a LS3 is the dumbest thing I have ever freakin heard. Works for the LS7, but not the LS3 heh? LOL The CAI cant change air fuel ratio that much so engine gets lean and blow up!!!

AFR can't change even a little on a pollution controlled vehicle hence why its illegal in CA and warranty voiding everywhere else. Blame tree huggers (EPA and CARB) not GM for that warranty clause. Although GM could try to get the re-certification if they so chose. Whether or not it would pass without requiring a retune, which GM is fully against, I don't know.

Even though it passes emissions in one model, GM would still need to pay a fee and go through the recertification process with CARB for use in another model. GM could do it if they wanted to, like the 3.91 kit. Highly doubt this intake in itself would fail CA smog, it's more likely about the additional money to pay for GM to sell as a CARB approved part.

Probably not quite as good of a flow as CAI or Rotofab, but definitely should be a gain over the stock box. This looks to be a pretty good part. I just wish GM would support the aftermarket performance parts better and not claim it voids warranties on non LS7 engines... that is BS.

I love my AEM air filter using the stock box, easy to feel the better pickup over 3000 RPM. Maybe next spring for the CAI, winter is coming.

Just installed the factory Z28 CAI in my 2011 manual 2SS. Very easy direct drop in. Took me more time to collect my tools and remove the old (Volant) CAI than to install the Z28 one. As to cost, remember that the Z28 CAI includes a MAF sensor which the aftermarket ones do not, thus something like $65-$85 bucks more expensive just because of that.

The K&N comes in a thick black plastic tube version as well. Same exact intake as the Z28 one. Go see for yourself. While we're on the subject I've seen the K&n plastic version pick up 11 hp and 13 ft lbs on the dyno with the hood closed. They work. I'm a supporter of vararam for sure but all the K&n hate on here is pure ignorance. Yes the CAI works well, but there are other options that work well also.
