Ok my story is pretty simple. I have always had F body Camaro's and Firebirds, so GM through and through. The wife was in hospital for 3 months. After 1st or 2nd week I didn't know if she would ever come home. It was a very scary time. Luckily we had 2 remarkable kids who helped me out in her absence. Things progressively got better for her and she came home for good. I had to do something, and she always wanted a Camaro, because when we dated she always asked, would you ever buy me a Camaro? So fast forward from 1987 to 2013, me and my son went out week after she came home from hospital with a BRM SS. Needless to say she got very choked up. The best feelings in life are doing things for other people. Never will forget it. She loves it. It's not mine in any way except for the title. She controls everything around it. LOL!

That might be the best story in this thread!

I was going to buy a New car when I retired (2 yrs).. But I am 54 and why wait? I've worked at the same place for 28 yrs next month. All the new car's I bought were for my wife all these yrs. This one is ALL MINE.. LOLOL Im a FORD guy. But there are Mustangs everywhere you turn. I like the Challenger body but it drove like a cheap Dodge..(Sorry the Truth). Then i drove a used Camaro and I liked the room and ride. I bought a New one in Sept and LOVE IT.. Im glad I didn't wait 2 yrs..

New black F bodies since December 1978- what else would I drive? I would have started in high school if I had any money. Our two daughters grew up arguing in the back seat of a T/A 6.6 TransAm. As of this week they are both in their 40's and don't speak to each other. Oh, well. Their mother bit her lip when I ordered the first one but later I found out she could be bought off with a new Silverado.

The crisis at 63 that concerns my daughters is "Silver? Why did he get silver?"

Due to wifes health problems I could no longer go to Indy Car and Rolex GrandAm races in my van conversion, so in order to make up for that loss I got a Miata. Since the wife couldn't ride in it I traded it after four years for my Camaro. I hardly think that, at age 70, it could be called "mid-life" unless the expected life span for men is now 140. I got it to enjoy my life as best I can given my situation.

After having two new knees, a new shoulder and a new hip put in over the last 2 1/2 years...I felt I was pushing my luck riding motorcycles at my age ...so bought the 1LE for the fun factor at age 61

I am 53. I've had a job since I was 11 years old. That's 42 yrs of hard work, with no breaks. I got hitched when I was 24, and spent the next 24 years raising a family, buying a house, paying for college education, buying vacations for the family, keeping food on the table, paying bills.. etc. ...So, the kid graduated with a masters degree, the house was sold and a condo was purchased. I was driving a really nice pick up truck because it was practical. This winter, I had to go out of town to work and I had to rent a car. Alamo upgraded me to a really nice model. A Camaro convertible.

That was all it took! I flew back home, and, the next day, I drove to the Chevy dealer. I never asked my wife. I never told anyone. I traded the nice practical truck on a bright red SS/RS. For once, I didn't have to ask permission. I didn't have to buy a used one. I didn't have to buy a slow one because it was all I could afford. It is exactly the car I wanted, right down to the Recaro seats... and it still had the sticker in the window!

And if I want to make it loud, I will. If I want to make it faster, I'm gonna. If I want to do a burnout every morning, that's what I'll do. The only concession I made was the auto tranny, so the wife can drive it. So far, she refuses my offer of a key and I am glad..This is MY car and I earned it. (but that auto tranny was my butt saver in case things went wrong..lol)..

So, mid-life crisis car? Maybe. If it makes someone feel less jealous to call it that, then go ahead. To me, it's my reward car. It's my freedom car. I earned it.

...and it kicks ass.

Why'd you buy yours?
+1

I actually kinda randomly bought one.

I was looking through my Detroit auto show pictures from earlier that year (2013- I was 24 at the time) and thought "I could see myself with that car"

I had NO intentions of buying a Camaro until that point. I went to GM's website and didn't know they started around 20K. My dad works for GM so that helped too. I was thinking of maybe buying one in 2014...UNTIL I saw the design change for that year. I wanted a '13 since I liked the body better, so I went to the dealer fully expecting to get the runaround.

It turned out perfect. I ended up paying what I thought and ended up with a much better finance rate since I've had good credit since high school. I waited and ordered it how I wanted on the last day for the '13s.

I got the 1LS with stripes. I'm glad I did because if I had the V8 it and/or me might be dead by now!

I'm 52 and my wife and I like the appearance of the new Camaro so we bought one. I didn't really think about how old I was when I purchased it. However the salesman appeared to be about 15 years old to me!

It was a Birthday/Christmas present to myself when I turned 50. Besides they didn't make a Pontiac Trans Am any more.......

lol. no one's mentioned my car as a 'mid-life crisis' car. if they do, i'd probably just challenge them (and win) a pushup contest and berate then for letting an 'old' man (of 46 years) beat them ;-)
