engine tick/knock
13 & 35
soooooo...engine started making an intermittent squealing noise the other day, sounded metalic in nature (of course this happened while i was IN traffic). checked oil pressure via the gauge cluster and it was low (below 30...not normal) 1. shut the engine off and started it back up, noise went away. 2. made it home and checked my oil level just to be sure (changed my oil last month so should be good) WRONG! 3qts low. no oil leaks and nothing coming out the exhaust. my garage floor is bone dry. ALSO...didn't get an oil level low indication...IF such a thing actually exists. 3. added missing oil and squeal remains gone but now i have a knocking/ticking sound. not sure if its the oil pump or something worse making the noise but added a quick video if its helpful at all. its most prominent around the 13 & 35 sec mark. any help would be appreciated. i know i've gotta rip it open, but any thoughts as to how deep im looking to get would help. thanks in advance. http://youtu.be/R7q__rdmupw

i did. i've done all my maintenance since day one including cam swap over 25k mi's ago.
added just about 7qts at time of change. oil filter is tight as well as drain plug. i'd like to say that there is a scape goat to take the blame...but unfortunately there is none. although i am perplexed as to where the oil went unless it was all through the PCV system?

i never fill it to the top of the hash marks, i keep it in the middle.
understandably the deepest one could go would be the bearings...but can a bearing be the cause of the ticking noise? my thinking is a dead lifter. thoughts? the ticking noise is most noticeable at low rpms. also, hooked up to HPTuners and there is no knock being detected either...

engine tick/knock
These engines actually like 7qts better then 8. I use 7 all the time as do many on here. On then L99 7qts actually keep the lifters quieter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sorry about the trouble, I feel your pain.... Upside though, you could move to a more aggressive cam now.

I think I may be getting a similar problem. While I was getting new tires put on last week, I had the shop clean my airaid air filter. Then when I picked up the car I heard a squeak/knock coming from the engine. It has now been a few days and it is getting worse. To the OP, where was the noise the loudest from? I can hear mine the best when I am under the car but in some situations it is just loud everything. Once I am above 1500 or so, it goes away.
