Sounds like a good first time out. Its not as easy to run good times as people think. You'll get faster, and yes no paddles. Mines fastest in sport mode letting the car shift itself.

I was really uncertain of what I was supposed to do. The first run, I didn't even know where the track ended and I braked too soon..lol.. It's not as easy as it looks. I have video that I should be able to post tomorrow. I need to edit it and put it on You Tube.
Not a bad time, but just in case you didn't know reaction time has nothing to do with your 1/4 mile time, it's just how long it takes you to react, it doesn't start timing till you move.

Here is video of the first two runs. (My dash cam created a new file during the third run, so most of it wasn't recorded.) I was very nervous the first run and actually let off the gas after 1/8 mile. I screwed up and thought the first line was the finish. I still beat the Mustang anyway.

Second run I did much better. You never see the other car, but he was there. Sorry about the sound quality.

Hope you enjoy!

Thanks! I had no idea. I've been reading up and trying to learn the best techniques. I think I can improve a whole bunch. I'm pretty excited about going back next week. I can see how this could become addicting. I haven't stopped thinking about it since I ran.

OP. Nice job on the 1st Mustang. You beat him by coasting over the line. Love it.

Thanks! I didn't even think about it at the time. Looking back, it is funny. I hope he doesn't think I did that on purpose.

I will keep up you updated. If you want to try it, just go do it. Get online, find your local track and look for a test and tune night. Just go there. I didn't know anyone there. I had no idea what to do. I survived and had a blast. You can do it. I promise, you will have a great time. If nothing else, you will have a story to tell for the rest of your life.

One added bonus is that any desire that I had to race on the street is totally gone. Used to be that if someone revved their engine at me in a safe area, I was usually good to go up to the speed limit... or punch the throttle on the highway. (Stupid, I know..but most of us have done it) Since I went to the strip, I just ignore it now. It made me a safer driver. Nothing compares to actually doing wide open, legal racing.

There is a really good thread in the drag racing sub forum that has a ton of good information.

Well like me last year you found out its alot harder then it looks. I think for you to start a simple approach is better. I start in M mode.foot brake it up to around 1000 rpm.For my car I spin if I go any higher. I did leave my nannies on because my tires were no good and it would go sideways on me. The car will work better shifting on its own. I tried to listen in your vid...it sounded like you were shifting way to early. Now that you've tried it.....all that's left is practice....nice job .

I own a business, so sometimes my schedule is a bit unreliable. I am planning to go back next week. It would be fun if we could get some 5th Gens there to represent.
40lb front and probably 32lb rear hot tire pressures. 1,000 RPM, and let the computer shift it. Not as much fun, but faster and more consistent.
