L99 Resonator?
What exactly is the purpose of the L99's exhaust resonator? Is it meant to keep it quiet, or does it do something else? I know it weighs a lot. I am interested in getting an X-pipe to replace the resonator. Should I get a resonated X-pipe, or will any X-Pipe do the same job?

Resonator is there to quite down the exhaust note in 4 cyl mode due to AFM. I want to delete mine as well. I noticed Jegs has a resonator eliminator x pipe on sale for $79.99 which I thinking about getting.

It's designed to reduce resonance and drone in the car.
I had a Jegs x pipe in the recent past.

Had mine cut out and a custom X done in its place. Does drone though and unless you have a Range device or have AFM tuned out, the 4cyl mode sucks!

To confirm...there would be no drone with the Range device when the stock resonator is replaced with an X pipe?

I have already replaced the mufflers with axleback so maybe I should leave this alone

I have the factory manifolds and cats, replaced the resonator with an x pipe, and electric exhaust cutouts that bypass my mufflers and there's a little drone but it's so faint you barely notice it. It sounds awesome when you get on it too, more of high pitched exotic kind of sound. Forgot to mention I also have the range device.

You will get drone regardless by removing the resonator without J-Pipes, however AFM is really nasty with the resonator removed.

Had mine cut out along with the mufflers too. So I'm running straight pipes from the cats back with an x pipe where the resonator used to be. As others have said, make sure to get a range device or get a tune that gets rid of AFM or it will sound like crap when AFM kicks in. Overall, it sounds awesome so do it you won't regret it!!!

Thanks to everyone. I will be getting a regular, non-resonated x-pipe. Bye bye resonator and 40 extra lbs.

I have Kooks Lt's, high flow cats, deleted the Resonator, Borla S-Type exhaust and had Drone up the azz.
Installed solo J-Pipes and BAM drone was gone. |
