Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires are mounted!

The mud flaps I got for ZL1Addons work great, but they are too thin for the vigors of track. They broke on both sides:

I'll send them the pics and tell them they should increase the thickness of the plastic.

The car is ready for track! My Miata is also ready for the track with smaller supercharger pulley, and I am very much conflicted in which one I should go with. The 26th track day is 5-hour-driving away, so I might go to that one with the Camaro since it's more reliable, and go to the other one (which is 1.5 hours away) with the Miata, so in the worst case, I can get the car towed back home.

My custom trailer build order would not make it to the track days, so I put it on hold. I looked around, and realized that there are a few trailers already available that might be good enough. I might as well just buy one of those and get done with it.

This tilt trailer (7x18) might work!

How much camber are you running front and rear?

I have two track cars, and keep mixing up which one could hit what, but I think fronts are around -2 or so (if not more), and rears should be at least -1.5 or so. The rears were fine, and this was the front left tire. I think this tire needs -3 camber, which was actually also pointed out by the Porsche owners who tried this tire. I was hoping I could get away with it since GM was recommending -1.5 max for the fronts.

I don't like camber plates. They're expensive, prone to failure (bending, breaking), might change suspension height, and are often noisy. If the NT01s also run into issues like this (and I hope not), I'll get the plates.

You have the original rock guards, we now have them made with our plastic and will replace them no charge. our new ones are thinner but will never break. We now have larger rock guards for the track use.

That's great to hear! I'll e-mail for the larger rock guards.

Wow... just posting to say that I love the updates you make on this thread. I do not race mine, but it is a real testament to how you set this car up and how you do so many updates and after run updates. Very cool!

Thank you! There's been quite a bit of trial and error. I am looking forward to trying out the new differential!!

I'd say change twice as often, even then you'll probably come out about even in fluid cost.

High quality mineral or synthetic gear lubes are required for use in Detroit Truetrac differentials. Regardless of the lube type, always use a GL5 rated
lube with the least amount of friction modifier. Mineral lubes lacking friction modifiers (limited-slip additives) were historically recommended for all Truetrac applications because friction modifiers can slightly reduce the bias ratio (limited-slip aggressiveness) of Truetrac differentials. However, to address the continually increasing power outputs of modern powertrains, many vehicle manufacturers have switched to synthetic lubricants as a counter measure for increased axle temperatures and prolonged service intervals. In general, consult the vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's recommendations for lubrication type, weight and fill volume. This will ensure lube compatibility with the seal materials and bearings used in the axle. Eaton Performance technical support is available for any concerns in lube selection.
I really really don't want to use conventional oil. jamestown used Redline 75W-90 NS (which has no friction modifiers) by mistake on the OEM SS LSD, and according to him, it locked up pretty severely, suggesting this fluid indeed provides more friction than those others in the market with friction modifiers. I have a feeling that it will work just fine. The alternative is this Lucas fluid (Lucas Oil 10046 SAE 80W-90 Heavy Duty Gear Oil - 1 Gallon)...

I honestly think you'll be ok with a 75/90 NS. Maybe it reduces torque bias a little but it probably won't be noticeable. Try a conventional for a day and then synthetic and see if there's a significant difference.

I love the fact that ZL1Addons guys take their time to improve their products. I will be getting my 'track version' rock guards soon. I was actually very worried about it since even before the early version rock guards were broken, I was able to see trail of dirt hitting the side of the car from the front tire. If the track version rock guards protrude more, it will be a very welcome change.

In other news, I will have a tilt trailer, very similar to this one at the pic. I will place my order after November 1st (after which they mark it as 2016):
  • The manufacturer I use (Top Notch Trailers in WA) makes them extra-wide at 84" fender to fender (real 7'), and 102" overall width of the trailer. My Camaro with the Z/28 aero, wheels, and fender extensions (identical to a regular Z/28 in dimensions) requires about 82" width minimum for loading. So it's still snug, but enough.
  • The approach angle is around 10 degrees. The pic has 6" approach plates; my trailer will come with longer 10" approach plates to make it even easier.
  • It also comes with 4" drop axle for the best approach angle, and hinged fender to be able to open the driver's door, which could be a problem due to that drop axle.
  • After options (like radials), it costs about $3K. My former (non-tilt) trailer was at $2200 with similar options, but with 4" frame.
  • Speaking of which, you need at least 5" frame for the Camaro. As I mentioned before, my former flatbed trailer with 4" frame has visibly flexed at the tail.

Can you open the door to get out when on the tailer, or do you have to do it Dukes of Hazzard style?

I always wondered about that. Some of the trailers seem so narrow or small overall that you would be stuck in the car it seems after loading.
