Low Oil Pressure....Turn Off Engine!!!!!

Low Oil Pressure....Turn Off Engine!!!!!

This is the message that came screaming over my DIC when i started my car this afternoon. I had been driving it all morning, went to my Mothers house to use the pool with my wife and son. After 5 hours of sitting, started the car up and this alarm sounded.

So did what it said to do, and turned off the car. Then sat there for 2 minutes pondering what the hell just happened. I then started it again to see if it was a faulty message......nope, messages comes right back, oil pressure gauge at zero, and shut the car off.

Thankfully i wasn't on the road stranded and was in my mothers driveway. She gave me a ride back to my home and got my truck, but now she sits outside until i make some phone calls tomorrow.

Im assuming the oil release valve stuck or the pump just simply failed.

Heres some info on the car.

2011 SS LS3
12,200 miles on car
SLP Supercharger 10lbs boost (6,000miles on motor with Charger)
1 7/8 Long tube headers, no cats
3" Retro Catback
96lb injectors
boost a pump
QTP Cutouts
Tune

Any other thoughts on what it could be?
No leaks, oil is full, 70% oil life on monitor.

I can't even begin to imaging how much this is going to cost me......

My other issue is going to be getting it onto a trailer or flat bed. Very low.

All too common problem - had this happen to me 2 weeks after I got mine. It is the oil pump - as long as you do not run it like that it should be fine after an oil pump. It is the sticky relief valve. It is a 600-800 repair unless you can get a shop to cover it under the 100k power train warranty.

Sorry to hear about your oil pump. There are several DIY threads around here that detail the steps involved in replacing the pump. It actually doesn't look like too bad of a job. If you have any experience at all and a decent set of tools, it looks like it could be done at home. Good luck with it.

If this is not a warranty repair, I would not put a stock oil pump back in the car otherwise you may be doing this again in another 12 thousand miles.

Melling makes a pump that many folks here have installed with great success. Just search for failed oil pump to find threads that have the part number.

Thanks, I ended up having it towed the 2 hours back down to Jannetty. They have done all the work on my car since I bought so. So they will be putting in upgraded parts including the melling oil pump.

Just what everyone thought. The release valve was stuck open on the OIL PUMP.

Getting the Melling pump put in along with upgraded timing chain and tensioner.

Hopefully have it back this week.

Does $800 repair include part?
