I can't beleive this is happening

Hey fellow 5ers, I need help here. I've got a new '15 ZL1 bought in July. I'm trying to get thru this grueling break-in period following the rules like a good boy! Well, since having my drain plugs changed at the dealer I've now just added my 2nd quart of oil. My engine related mods are CAI intake and Elite catch can. I'm so bummed. What do you guys think the problem is? And what do you think I'm in for at the Dealer?

2nd quart of oil?? that doesn't sound right at all. Did Gm make any engine changes to the 15 model year Lsa?. I have a 14 and in the entire break in period I maybe went through .5 a quart. Hopefully the dealer doesn't bark at you for the cai or can, especially since you spent good money there. I hope they treat you right.

Prob betler off jus uninstalling the mods until you figure out the problem. Don't give them anything to use against u. They're Prob gonna blame the catch can lol

As long as you're not tuned. A catch can doesn't cause oil loss - quite the opposite. Unless the plumbing that connects it is leaking. And a CAI is entirely irrelevant in my opinion.

Take it in. Remove mods if that makes you feel better. But take it in. As long as you're not tuned, they should track it down and fix it under warranty.

Hope you figure it out, but I'm more appalled that at almost 4 months you're still in the 1500 mile break-in period.

It took me till the middle of my 3rd summer to hit the 1500 mi break in. Guess I'm not doing so well when it comes to using my car either. I broke it in just the way they said and so far with 2008 mi it hasn't used any oil and no noise from the Super Charger.

Do you see oil anywhere? The catch can could be leaking, but I doubt that much. Underfilled on oil? Seems more likely.

I know these are two different engines but I bought a brand new 2012 Mustang GT at the end of 2011. That new 5.0 was sucking down almost a quart every 1k in miles. Once I hit 5k it just stopped. There were a lot of theories as to why it happened but at the end of the day sometimes new engines suck down a little oil. However the LSA doesn't appear to be one of those motors so I would take it to the dealer and see if they can find an issue.

Catch Can has nothing to do with the oil that is in the engine and is measured by the dip stick. There are threads on here about break-in and what happens to the engine oil if done improperly. If you think the new drain plug is the issue, there should be oil on your floor, so if none, then not the problem. Do some searches on here about excessive oil consumption on new engines. I think my 2015 was less than 1 qt low for first oil change.

No visible oil leaks in car or on the floor. Changed oil plug for a magnetic plug, and yes it coul have been less than full after that, I didn't check it. But after that (when the light came on), I filled it, and checked it. And this wkd light comes on again, and another qt low after just 1000 mi.

Yes, 1300 miles in 4 months is weak. But it's a weekend/fun car, and I have very busy summers at work. So I've just recently gotten to play.

WTF.....I don't get this either....dealer changed drain plugs?

I'd put everything back to stock ASAP.

Losing 2qts of oil is crazy. How many miles on the car? You know that you should rev the motor up a little bit during the break in period.....the valves and engine need to seat properly....
