Umm they fell off? they are not supposed to do that... GM assured people the brake weights would never fall off (become a hazard) i could imagine if one falls off on the highway at 80mph someone is in trouble behind you.

It was where the car was parked near our group in the parking lot at the track. A friend of ours noticed it and asked what it was. I recognized it right away and took a picture of it.

Yup, Steve (my husband) said they made quite the racket as they went flinging through the wheel wells (this was during a track day at P.I.R.). No one else said anything to him about it when he came into the parking area, so I assume they didn't (thankfully) affect anyone behind him!

caliper

This was seen a few months back, calipers weights I think can't be good, one thing I have had weights come off of the wheels after being balanced. I am glad it was on the first models out, sorry but I think that could cause problems in disk and braking.

I L O V E this site!

I am getting ready to paint my calipers and find this!

My vin is 25789 and I got'em. Some genius even stuck one on edge to the pile! I guess my weekend project of painting is on hold!!

Don't want to waste the paint and find out they are replacing. Also don't want to paint the pile of cr@p that will probably fall off. I guess anyone that has painted has already pulled them, any issues?

Update:

Talked to my sales guy at dealership. He played

He said to get into a dealership, complain & hand them the weight from garage floor, and get it on paper & in the system.

If there are any memos or directives, the dealers service mgr. will know. The squeeky wheel gets the grease or weights in this case!

Shinny wheels realy reflect flashes

Went into local dealership today to get complaint registered.

Took him the weight from garage floor.

He could not believe that GM had taped weights to the front calipers. We even went into their showroom to check their car and yup, they were there.
As a side note, they had a $10K dealer markup on their SS!

Here is PI document #2271394 listing Wheel weights on front brake calipers.

Could not believe they actually printed the words "This was done after careful evaluation and validation by our engineering team." Really?

One has already fallen off and I only have 800 miles on car. Have not even really heated the brakes up yet!

Told the guy I would take the calipers off the Z06 on the floor, it's a high-performance vehicle....right? No weights taped to it.

Can't wait for the update once GM Eng. gets back to them.

Do you have the rest of the document? Could you scan that too, please?

Here's an update:

After two days of waiting, GM engineers got back to the dealership with a solution...................................Tape them back ON!

Needless to say, the service advisor was not satisfied and neither am I.

They will be getting back to us later next week with another solution. Will update later.

Have a Great/Safe weekend All ! :flag1:

C'mon Bolero, did you just pay 42K for a new car that had tape weights on the claiper that WILL fall off at some point?

A work around is fine, but an acceptable fix must be found and provided to those that want it. How about screwing a lead plate on.

I don't know of any performance vehicle sold with this type of temporary fix.

I hope Government motors steps up and proves the critics wrong!

Someone posted above that they could think of 20 fixes, please post em.

Should have response back by end of week from GM.

that is not acceptable, next time those things fly off they can do some damage. will they pay for damages incurred by their weights?
