The 2LT for 2016 no longer includes most of these items, they require adding the 'technology package'. That's an extra $2800 on top of the price increase. So the top of the line loaded 2SS is not so much extra, but the bread and butter type cars get to 40k in a hurry. No way would I have paid that for a 2LT.

A 1LT 2016 'vette starts at $55,400. Granted it isn't a high option car, but at 10% premium over a Camaro, I'd give it some consideration.

You bring up a good point

2015 2LT Automatic V6: $31,495

2016 2LT Automatic V6 w/ Ambient lighting-HUD: $36,585

A jump of $5,090.

Oh yea. When I was looking in December 2013, I found several 2014 1SS's in the priced in the $26-29,000 range. Several. I settled on a 2SS with 5,340 miles on it for $31,000 even because I wanted all the options, and "lightly used" didn't mean much to me. The 1SS's that money were mostly automatics though, so I didn't even give them a thought.

I have a feeling we are going to see a lot of leftovers on 20% off clearances come November. Now, a loaded 2SS for $40,000 and things get interesting...

Let's say half of everyone that owns a 5th trades up to a 6th.... You still need to bring in the other half from where?? other brands and new owners....? Just seems like an unrealtic goal for GM to set themselves

It is unrealistic, but you would think that sales would spike when a new generation is released... and that hasn't happened to the Camaro (it did happen to the Mustang).

So there are more variables at play here, and the posters have touched on them...

1) Blue collar car in White collar price range
2) Evolutionary design does not separate it from the prior generation

The striving for performance and fear of making a drastic (cosmetic) change has pushed the 6th Camaro into a no-mans land. As in, there are so many other (better) options out there, in this price range, that the Camaro will be selected by no man.

What's funny is the new generation Mustang (the S550) DID top sales for every other year Mustang since the reintroduction of the Challenger/Camaro 8 years ago.

So it not only saw a spike, but it topped nearly a decade of lower sales.

Price out a loaded gen 6 SS vert. Comes to $59,500. Call me stupid, call me jealous, call me whatever, I work hard for my money and the last IQ test i took confirmed that I was well above borderline retarded. Enjoy your gen6 while I'm enjoying my Vette at that price point

I still can't get over the fact about how small the trunk is on the Camaro6. One of the things I love about the 5th Gen is that the trunk is sneakily large. I can fit a large suitcase in the back of mine, or even my golf bag with the top down. In the Camaro6, they completely took that away and it really can't haul anything other than a large briefcase (only slightly exaggerating).

I love everything else about that car. The interior is incredibly comfy, the seats are the most comfortable I've ever felt in a car, and the detailing is perfect for an upgrade over the 5th Gen, but that drunk is a complete deal breaker for me. At a certain point, just get rid of the back seat and give us more storage.

You could get a slightly older ZL1 for less. The specs and interior are better than Gen5, but not the outside IMO. The new Mustang looks great, but the new Camaro isn't as sleek.

IDK, 1SS only 33K. Seems reasonable...

I made them prove that a golf bag would go in the trunk before we ordered the car. I did not think it would!

Just one bag? What about if you go with a buddy? My '13 fits 2 easily.
