Sirius XM with Android unit and other questions..
Hi guys, I'm seriously considering upgrading to an Android unit in my 2014 1LT.
I currently only have the basic stock radio. I know i'll need a Scosche or Metra face plate, but i'm wondering what else is involved. I don't need one with a DVD or CD in it since I will use my phone for a lot of the music. How do I keep my Sirius XM? Can I store play lists in the unit? Can I add a SD card to store music or GPS data? What additional harnesses will I need for my steering wheel controls? Will it talk to my on board data as far as all my diagnostics? I need to run a cable from the unit to the backup camera, right? I'm sure these questions have probably been covered somewhere already,I guess I'm just too lazy to dig through multiple threads.. Thanks....

Ok, so I've learned through some research that SiriusXM can be had only by using my phone or an external Sirius receiver. Has anyone set it up with the separate receiver? If so, where did you mount the antenna and the receiver so it looked good?

Not sure I'm a lot of help here. But I have installed a stand alone XM receiver on a previous vehicle. It was pretty large back then and had to be mounted under the seat, not sure of the current size. But don't forget you will need to run power to it. And I've never had good luck mounting an XM antenna inside the vehicle, regardless of if it was in a window or hatchback. And the small XM magnet will create cool little rust spots under it on your paint job, or at least it did in the Houston humidity.
I really like XM, don't want to open that debate again, but I don't think its worth the hassle to install stand alone. YMMV. One more factor to consider, my XM radio sounded fine with my stock BA stereo. After installing an amp and woofer you can really tell a difference in sound quality between XM, CD and the regular radio. The XM sounds pretty bad. Good luck either way. |

I reused the factory antenna, you just have to take the plastic clip off the connector and plug it into the external Xm unit. Just make sure your aftermarket radio supports Xm radio.
