CNN - Money
"The good times are rolling at General Motors, as the once troubled automaker reported record profits Thursday. GM, the nation's largest automaker, reported $2.9 billion in profit in the second quarter. That was more than double what it made a year ago. Strong sales in both the United States and China lifted sales and earnings. And the company said it expects good times to continue, even as some analysts have worried that U.S. car sales may have topped out in recent months, industry-wide. GM gave a rosier outlook for 2016 following its quarterly results. Shares of GM jumped more than 5% in premarket trading on the news." ========= Looks like they'll have plenty of cash in reserve to bring the new Z28 in to production as planned.

The average 5th gen owner see's no reason to switch to the 6th.
Not many like the styling. The car is lighter, only because it is smaller. The car is targeted at an age grouo that is more likely to buy a Prius, or in the future an Autononmous car. That age group will never spend that much money on a car, they would rather Uber, driving is not important to most of them. GM's rather weak advertisement team is having more fun playing pokemon, than actually producing commercials that show case cars as something that are fun to drive, not trying to convince us that emoji's are a good indicator that a car is cool. They need epic commercials, not rainbow, and unicorn PC everyone is happy as a puppy dog commercial. Gm has too many millennials working there. |

They are way too expensive. No interest in a 2ss camaro beyond 35k which was what they were when I originally bought mine a couple of years back. They have outpriced their core fanbase. And with all time high sales on the 5th generation, it would have to take a killer deal to have people trade in a three year old car (unless it's end of lease). The difference in what is owed would be huge.

The '17-'18 Vette is slated for $90k-$150k and 750+ hp, you won't have to wait but 18 mo and the Camaro will be the "poor man's vette" again.

Q2 US Muscle Car Sales
Ford Mustang Leads Dodge Challenger after Q2, Camaro Continues to Struggle
Camaro sold at a rate of 40k+ units annually in the early 2000's, before it was discontinued; the F-body platform was only shared with the Firebird. Sales are on pace to drop to 50k+ units in 2018, the lowest volume since then; the Cadillac CTS & ATS, with whom it shares the Alpha platform, have been discontinued. My guess is that the 7th generation Camaro will share the Alpha II platform with the upcoming CT5. Hopefully, they'll both be successful.

Cant even look at buying new over here, a nearly new 2017 2.0 Camaro with 3k on the clock is £29,995 that's around $40,000 and a brand new V8 Coupe [L99] is £39,185 that's around $52k,
I am seeing a lot of brand new Mustangs though. |
