Z28 diff swap.
What is needed to swap a z28 diff into an SS? Axles? Driveshaft? And yes the differential. Leaning towards this over 1le. Both are 3.91 and it shows on the GM online #23172756. The 1le is discontinued from GM but the z28 is still on line with that number and reasonable. I'm investigating what is needed to do this or just regear what I have. I have a new 3.91 gear set. Online parts says it doesn't fit my 2015 SS. That's not what I've been told but looking for input. Thanks

What's it going for? It would be drop in and warrantied. Might be a viable option.

The # I have is 23172756 and two GM sights are around $1100. If it's still available and a drop in without changing driveshaft I'll spring for the original axles but if I would need to change driveshaft, axles and hubs I may just redo mine.

Does anyone have the part# off their z28 rear. I've been told two different numbers both listed as differential assy z28. 23172756 and23172755. Quite a difference in price. Maybe 23172756 is the center section and the 23172755 is the complete? Still looking for answers.

I'm pretty sure 23172756 is the torsen diff itself (no housing), while 23172755 is a complete diff assembly. I'm unsure on axle and DS needs.
From Pace Performance complete Z28 diff assembly: http://paceperformance.com/i-1999112...al-module.html JDP Motorsports does complete SS diff assemblies: http://www.jdpmotorsports.com/manufa...-ss-jdp-dt1001

Thanks for the info. I prefer a drop in diff but if for the cost of axles and hubs maybe a driveshaft I'm getting too close to the zl1. Which if I had to spend that much I would much rather have a zl1 diff. I thought that one # was awful cheap. GM parts direct never clarified it.

did you ever find out if the driveshaft and axles/hubs need to be changed?

I decided to use the gears I have for now and rebuild another SS diff with the 3.91 gears I already have. I've been told that the z-28 diff is basically a SS diff with a tru trac and cooler. ZL-1 is more $ but stronger. i hope to do that in the future.

The z28 diff is not that strong. We already broke one in a bone stock daily driven z28 and the second one already groans and pops. They are NOT suited for a daily driven car.
