He said GM would call them when an allocation was avaiable.

YOUR DEALER IS AN IDIOT

They can put your order into the system at anytime. Regardless of allocation numbers. Until they get an allocation it just sits there and collects dust like most of our orders are still doing. But we at least know we have an order waiting to get pulled by GM.

I was going to go into a long drawn out process of the steps. But all you have to do is check through this sweet thread that RPO started and it will show you how the orders work once they are in

No, not at all. Your dealer should know GM doesn't call dealers to tell them when an allocation is available. Your dealer simply logs into GMGlobalConnect and looks each week to see if he gets/got one. In the meantime, there is NO reason that he shouldn't enter your order in OrderWORKBENCH and give you the printout with the confirmation number. ESPECIALLY since you're running out of time to be covered under pre-order price protection.

Nope, don't want you to think that at all

Your salesman is giving you a line of or just doesn't know enough about the process to give you valid info. You might want to see if you can deal with the manager of the store at at least ask to talk to the inventory manager or whoever will be submitting the order.

I don't know if I covered what "estimated shipments" are but I don't want to confuse anyone any further.

Since today is my day off, I have limited access at home to Global Connect or i would post a screen shot now (don't know why it doesn't work at home).

It all has to do with when you do your consensus (opens tomorrow).

Based upon your earned allocation, you get estimated shipments of a particular allocation group. For the purpose of explanation, I will use Camaro (obviously). Let's assume that Camaro was in full fledged production (for fantasy's sake). When I do my consensus, I would forecast how many Camaros I would sell for the next 3 months. So let's be fair and say the dealership is going to sell 10 Camaros in a month for the next 3. That totals a forecast of 30 units. Then it asks how many Camaros I would like on the ground on the 4th month. So let's say I want to have 20 Camaros in stock to sell. Now I have to figure out how many preliminary orders I have to pull from. So, if I plan to sell 30 and then have 20 on the ground, I need to have 50 buildable orders to satisfy those quantities. That's where the estimated shipments come in. If I only have 20 estimated shipments, I really shouldn't be forecasting for those numbers because the most I'm going to get (plus or minus 10%) is 20. But there are dealers that either, don't take all their estimated shipments OR just don't use the system right and lose allocation and estomated shioments fto other dealers.

This is why GM has issues keeping factories running at full capacity. Let's say I had 15 HD Crew Cabs in stock and somehow sold them all in one month. GM would give me estimated shipments because I am selling them well. But if I want out of the HD Crew Cab business, I don't take my est. shipments and another dealer can pick them up.

Using the Camaro during a launch is a bad example because you can't fathom these numbers. As I said before, it really is not complicated when you do it for years but chances are your dealer has a guy who really is not familiar with the system at all.

That's why you always see "Your dealer is an *****!"

So I read this over a bunch of times.....and I'm not quite sure about something. Are the estimated shipments a number that is pre-determined by GM? And they determine that number from past sales performance for that particular model/group of cars? Is it like their own version of forcasting what they think you'll sell? It's like cars above and beyond your own forcasts incase you need them?

Question Mr. ZPO_Z28?

Let's just say tomorrow its time for me to go pickup my new 2010
(Yes, I know this won't happen, there not even being produced right now), and its time to settle the contract and price. I have the R6P: Early Order Activity Vehicle code on my workbench.

Now from what I get from this forum, my price was locked at MSRP the day my order went in. and lets say my dealer wants to be shady, and charge me above MSRP. Is there anything I can print out to show my dealer, that states that MSRP must be given. Or is up to the dealer and this code is just for something extra on the window sticker?

I'm pretty sure I won't have this problem, but there might be others out there that are worried.

Thanks again for all the great knowledge!

Your order is only locked into MSRP if that's the deal you made with them! You should have it in writing from your dealer stating this. GM cannot enforce price. GM can guarantee that the "MSRP" value of your car will be the currently announced prices but if your dealer decides to charge more than MSRP, that's their prerogative. For example, my salesman printed out the workbench sheet and I had him write on there "MSRP or less with incentives" and sign it.
