We've been going the past 4-5 years. Usually about 25 of us show up. A set of 3 laps is $25. If you buy 2 sets you get a 3rd set free to use that day or another day. We typically meet there around 10:30 and run the 1st set at 11:00 and finish around 1:00. Speeds typically aren't all that fast for this event because it's so crowded, but around 100 on the straights for the last lap in a set is usually doable. Concessions are also open so there is food. We also arrange with Seneca Grand Prix Go karts to open so we can do that after, and some people go to town for lunch while that's going on as well. For karts they want $20 for 20 minutes. If you want to really drive your car, I recommend track days with one of the car clubs. If you want more info PM me. I've done 14 track days at WGI and 2 at Mosport and I'm scheduled , so far, for two more at WGI on 4/30 and 5/1.

Where do you get your helmets? The track days look like they all want SA certifications and our helmets are all SM - and I can't find anyone that sells SA's locally. At this point it would make more sense to buy an SA2015 but I'd have to do that online.

I might be interested in going to WGI again if I'm not out wheeling somewhere that weekend, if I can make it can I bring a friend in his Pontiac G8?

Sorry, not talking about helmets for opening day, you are correct no need for them then - Track Days where you you pay for training and track time require them.

I got mine on-line from Summit Racing. They have charts for measurements to get the correct size. You'll also find the price better on-line than locally. Most of the affordably priced helmets are sized by S, M, L, XL so there's a range of fit.
Get an SA2015. SA helmets are typically accepted for 10 yrs, so an SA 2015 will be good as long as it isn't damaged until 2025. SA2010 are only good until the SA2020 comes out. SM certified helmets are for motorcycles and tested and certified for a different type of impact than would occur in a car.

Hello all. Trying to join up now. Been on the forums for a bit but didn't know there was a club going. Bought my Camaro late 2014 then found out about this forum. It's going to be an exciting year.

Like I said you really can't ask for a better group of people. Right now their setting up for a get together at Watkins Glen Track for a Track Day.

Welcome. You're added to the member list. Like Spike said, first event of the year will be Watkins Glen opening weekend. While not really a 'track day' in that sense, it is paced laps, but still fun and gives all of us a chance to meet back up after a brutal winter. We will hopefully be able to get the go kart track down the road to open up for us as well. Details to come probably around the end of March.
