Not sure about the LS3, but from Mike Mueller's "Corvette C5" book, here's some info on the first durability tests on the LS1:

"..the LS1 had undergone every test known to man, from seemingly endless high-rpm durability runs, to searing desert heat exposure, to frigid torture tours in the great white north."
...
"Out of the car two Gen 3 V-8's were run on dyno stands at full throttle for 50 hours with no complaints. Although that achievement met GM specifications, Gen 3 chief enginner Ed Koerner was not convinced; he raised the bar to 260 hours for two more LS1s, then 520 for a single engine, When torn down after its dizzying run, the latter V-8 reportedly looked like new inside."

300 hours? We were doing 500+ fourteen years ago.

I can't speak specifically on the Camaro engine but I know that there's a least 300+ hours on the hybrid transmissions. Running that many hours simulates 300,000 miles. Since they run that many hours on the transmissions I'm pretty sure it's standard practice on the engines as well.

I'd like to add that they just don't run them WOT the whole time. They run them on cycle and do slow ramp ups and WOT runs in each cycle. They get the whole range.

As for the 500+ hours. It's really not about how long they can run as much as a projected life cycle, 300 hours representing 300,000 miles being a target/standard that has been set. That gives me some reassurance.
