Had this problem at first. Focused on the accuracy of that particular shift a bit more while "spirited driving". Made sure I was guiding the stick to the appropriate spot, quick but without slamming it, firm pressure but don't force it (remember what dad said, don't force it lol). Last little while it's been smooth as butter. Even gettin' a little chirp going into 4th (ok, can you still call that "spirited driving"?)

I get 2-3 grind now and again. I have 4K miles on mine, next time I'm in the dealer I might have them take a look at it too.

Wow you all have exactly the issue I'm having. 2-3. I went spirited driving last night and out of 4x I couldn't get it into third at all. Like 1 of you said sitting there it goes in like butter, When not spirited driving it also doesn't go into gear smoothly. At least I now have some evidence of an issue and where to start looking. I also was getting pissed off. That's why I'm on the forum at 12:50 am. Maybe now I can sleep!

I have about 450 miles on my 2SS and have noticed twice now that its very easy to accidentally shift back into first instead of third. This morning on my way to work I was travelling about 35-40 mph and intended to go into third. However, it very easily slid into first and to my horror the rpms flew right up to about 5000 as I let off the clutch. I was trying very hard not to go over 4000rpm for the first 1500 miles of the break in. Any ideas? I feel like it should not allow me to easily shift back down to first at that speed.

I have about 600 miles on mine, it is a daily driver. No issues shifting so far, cept for the clutch being tighter than my 4th gen he he but is has 245000+ on her.

As for the 'grinding' are you guys referencing true Grinding of gears, or jsut an abrasive feeling at the shift area? I noticed if you half ass the clutch it you can get a gear grind, but I do not notice anything on the shift pattern that is flawed. IMHO.

I thought I had a problem after the last trip to the track,so I made an appointment to have the trans looked at. Behind the dealer is a nice long straightaway so I figured this would be great for showing the service rep my problem. Well 3x I went down there and 3x I hit third everytime. I can't believe I was that screwqed up at the track that day. Well going tomorrow again...we'll see!

Early production Vins
Is this an early production problem?
Usualy if a problem exists on earlier production vins, the engineers will examine the claims , and alter the production run on later models, ie. Battery cable, output shaft, loose spoilers. Just a thought |

I WORK AT A CHEVY DEALER HERE IN ODESSA. TALK TO A TECH ABOUT THE WALL WHEN TRYING TO SHIFT HE SAYS ITS NORMALY. IT ONLY HAPPEN TO ME WHEN TRYING TO SHIFT TO FAST HE TOLD ME THAT IT IS GOING TO DO THAT TO STOP YOU FROM MESSING ANY THING UP IN SIDE THE TRANS. NOW IF IT IS DOING IT AT A SLOW EASY SHIFT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM...BUT FROM WHAT HE IS TELLING ME YOU CANT SPEED SHIFT THESE CARS LIKE BEFORE...BUMMER

i know the 4th gen t-56s had the bad 2-3 shift when you got on it, but that was due to a restriction in the line from the master to slave cylinders. has anybody tried to do the drill mod on the 5th gen yet?

This could play in with the combined brake fluid & clutch cylinder issue...I would be interested to see the drill mod done on one of these.

When you shift to third from 2nd, don't use your thumb at all. Don't grab the knob.
Just use the palm of your hand with the fingers up. Push the shifter toward the radio. The strong centering spring in the shifter will put it in line with 3rd, you don't have to. Your shifter is self centering for 3rd and 4th gear. Try this and you will NEVER miss a shift. Also when you pull the shifter from 1st to 2nd, and from 3rd to 4th just cup your fingers over the shifter knob. Get in the habit of never using your thumb on the knob and you will notice you will shift smoother and faster. You might find the following link to be very helpful. http://rangeracceleration.com/Improved_Shifting.html
