think about it its only like 3 bucks more to use 91 then 87 thats with a 20 cent difference in the price if ur driving a ss and complaining about 3 bucks wortha gas then you shouldnt even be driving one!!!

I could most definitely tell a definite driving change once having a purely 93 octane tank of gas...sounds like a few others agree that a 6.2L will perform better with a higher octane gas in the tank.

We've all tried to talk him out of the 87 Octane before... every post in here is a repost of 8 months ago. I will say no one is telling him anything he hasn't already heard or doesn't already know. He's got 35K on his car and it's working for his situation...(if I remember right some altitude is involved). So there's no need to bash..
For me it's 93 all the way and tuned to take advantage of it.... |

Commits weekly crime

I use my Camaro for my daily driver. I did not buy it for gas milage. If I wanted to spend less on gas, I would have gotten something else...

Sorry Cali members, I gotta do it...... 93 here also. Every time. I tend to agree with the members here about the higher octane in the SS. However if the gentleman that is putting the 87 octane in his SS is content with it and has no "perceived" problems with it, then I say let sleeping dogs lie (sp?). I just truly hope that he doesn't come back some day with some sort of problem, that isn't covered by warranty due to the gasoline being put in it. (and yes there are documented cases of warranties being voided by not putting in the "recommended" octane.

As for warranty i don't buy cars for warranty never have and never will, In 1 year i have 35K in mi so don't have a warranty, You can do what you want but the OP asked if any one was running 87 so i posted on here as for all of you that don't want to it up to you, But for me the car runs as hard as it did on 91 ( That is as high as we can get) so i see no need to run 91, If it pull timing as much as some of you say then this car is a dog. Will see |

2SSRS, what I said was your increased HP offsets your use of 87 octane, as you say you are up 61 HP, from experience I know what the feal of 20-25 HP feels like, getting off of the low octane table, 61 or maybe 40 if on the low octane table is easy to feel, and not to mention the vararam intake.

My SS gets 93 only, if 94 is available I'll get that but I haven't seen 94 close to me.

Lower performance is one issue, but not a major one for a daily driver. If you dont lose MPG by using lower octane, and it doesnt damage the engine (it shouldnt since the ECU compensates) then do what your pocketbook wants.
I currently only use 93 octane but if I was in a situation where that $7 a tank would make a difference I would use 87 for a while.
